CLIENTACTION Command

2006-01-25 Thread Nicolas Savva
Hi to all

I am using the command DEFINE CLIENTACTION to schedule a client to process
a command for a one-time action. The command i am giving is as follow:

define clientaction BIZTALK-DAILY domain=BIZTALK_DAILY action=command
object='"C:\TSMUSER\PROD\WNA1BZT.bat"' wait=yes

On the client side i have the following settings about the tsm scheduler:

Prompted
- TCP/IP address:localhost
- TCP/IP port: 1501
- session Init.:server only

The above command is defined successfully but the job
C:\TSMUSER\PROD\WNA1BZT.bat is not executed at once. Do i have to change
something?

TSM SERVER version: 5.3.1 (windows 2000)
TSM Client: 5.2.3.11

Thanks in advance

Backup strategy for Lotus Domino

2005-07-29 Thread Nicolas Savva
Hi to all

I am using TDP for Lotus Notes 5.1.5 for backing up Lotus Domino (size
190GB) onto 3590 cartridges. I use the following backup strategy:

Lotus Domino is using Archive Logging.

Perform weekly selective backups (size 190GB) of all logged databases,
   every Saturday
Archive the transanction log frequently each day (every 4 hours)
Run incremental backups every night to backup logged databases that
   their DBIID has changed
Run the inactivatelogs command in order to expire non-essential
transaction log files. I am running this command after the full backup.

How can i setup the backup copy group in order to be able to restore a
database 5 years old (keep backups for 5 years)?

Thanks in advance

If i am correct, based on the above mc an inactive file will be deleted
after 33 days. What about the active backup? for example i am trying to
restore a file that i took backup, and i can't see any of inactive/active
backup versions of this file. Based on manuals, i know that the active
backup version should be existed. (active backup version never expired).

Do i need to change something?

Using client compression for TDP for Lotus Domino

2005-02-21 Thread Nicolas Savva
Hi to all

I have the following question regarding TDP for Lotus Domino:

I am using client compression when i execute incremental backups via TDP
for Lotus Domino. When my backup is finished i received the statistics on
TSM server's log but there is nothing telling me about the compression.
i.e:

Domino ACD5207 Data Protection for Domino:
Incremental
database backup from server CYMAIL1 complete.
Total
Domino databases backed up: 2502 Total bytes

   transferred: 100256200678 Elapsed processing time:

   12850.34 Secs Throughput rate: 7618.98 Kb/Sec

Where can i see if my backup via TDP for Lotus Domino is compressed as well
as the compression ration?

TDP for Lotus Domino: version 5.1.5
TSM server: version 5.1.5

Thanks

I'm not that impressed by TSM's scheduling capabilities.
Is anyone using a third party scheduler under Windows that has a minimum
intelligence to:

a. Schedule scripts on other servers
b. Have interdependencies between schedules
c. Cancel schedules depending on timeout values
d. Doesn't cost anything . :-) (just joking)

If so, could you please recommend one ?
Thanks

Incremental backups

2004-02-26 Thread Nicolas Savva
Hi,

Currently i am the new administrator of TSM in my organization.

I have a request for backing up a windows 2000 server (backup domain C and
D) and i must be able to restore data up to two years ago.

Please find below the solution i am going to implement for the above
request
and let me know:

1.Every day i will run incremental (progressive) backup with the following
Backup Copy Group: (keep incremental backup for one year)

   VEREXISTS=NOLIMIT
   VERDELETED=NOLIMIT
   RETEXTRA=365
   RETONLY=31

2. At the end of the year (30/12/2004) i will perform an archive and keep
it
for 730 days.

3. What about backing up the system state of a windows 2000 server?
Is it ok to perform "dsmc backup systemstate" or is better to use NTBackup
utility and save the backup file on the disk and then backup that file with
TSM.

I would appreciate to have your comments on the above issues.

Thanks for your time
Nicolas Savva

To solve this after the backup finished we need to shutdown the DOMINO

Looking through Message manual:
"ANR0480W Session session number for node node name (client platform)
terminated - connection with client severed.

Explanation: The specified client session is ended because the
communications link has been closed by a network error or by the client
program.

System Action: Server operation continues.

User Response: If a user breaks out of a client program, this message will
be displayed on the server as the connection is suddenly closed by the
client. A network failure can also cause this message to be displayed. If
a large number of these messages occur simultaneously, check the network
for failure and correct any problems. "

So the questions are:
- did someone killed the client's process
- did someone powered the node's system
- are there any network problems

Backup copy group definition

2003-10-13 Thread Nicolas Savva
Hi to all

I have a question regarding a backup copy group definition.

Let say that i want my incremental backup to be stored for 7 days and my
selective backup for 31 days

I have the following settings in my TSM for a backup copy group:

1. For incremental backup:

 Copy Group Name STANDARD

 Versions Data 1
 Exists

 Versions Data 1
 Deleted

 Retain Extra7
 Versions

 Retain Only Version 7

 2. Selective backup

 Copy Group Name STANDARD

 Versions Data 1
 Exists

 Versions Data 1
 Deleted

 Retain Extra31
 Versions

 Retain Only Version 31

Do You think the above definitions are correct?

Thanx

Hi List,

We are using an LTO Library with only one tape drive.
For Reclamation i created a new file devclass with a
Max capacity of 20G. For the most Volumes of our stg pools
the Reclaim process runs successfully. The one Volume
where reclaim fails contains a file bigger than 20G.

Is the 20G file the cause for failing reclaim processes ??

all suggestions are welcome ...

In my environment i have only one tape drive.

To enable tape reclamation for a storage pool that has only one mount

device class. (read " Reclaiming volumes in a storage pools with one drive

Hi,

I am quite new to TSM and trying to configure some setups by myself &
currebntly facing some problems.

My setup is as follows:

I run a daily backup for around 200 GB on LTO tapes. I permanently have 3
tapes in a 3590 library defined to a stgpool (UATPOOL). I want to keep the
last 3 copies. So I am using the expiry features and want to use
reclamation
to recover the recalimable space so that my automated backups goes
continuosly on these 3 volumes.

My problem is that I am geeting the following messages :

ANR1040I Space reclamation started for volume UATHOT01, storage pool
UAT_POOL (process number 39).
ANR1044I Removable volume UATHOT01 is required for space reclamation.
ANR0985I Process 39 for SPACE RECLAMATION running in the BACKGROUND
completed with completion state FAILURE at 16:13:35.
