Hi Damion,

We have seen this problem where the maximum number of mount points is set to
1. We got around this problem by increasing it to 5.

Solaris and RMAN backup attempt to SBT_TAPE

Hi,

I'm fairly new to TDPO so would be grateful for any assistance or advice
from more experienced TDPO Guru's !

Our UNIX Sys Admin staff and I have just installed and configured TDPO 5.3.2
on Sun Solaris 5.8.

We've followed the IBM TDPO instructions and have setup the tdpo.opt file
and the symbolic link from our Oracle 8.1.7.2 ORACLE_HOME/lib/libobk.so as
follows:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 oracle dba 18 Sep 7 11:13 libobk.so -
/usr/lib/libobk.so*

I've performed the RMAN setup/configuration using an Oracle 10.2.0.2
Recovery Catalog on the same Solaris 5.8 system.

I can successfully backup an Oracle 8.1.7.2 database to disk (via the Oracle
10.2.0.2 Recovery Catalog), but when I attempt to perform a backup of the
same database via RMAN to SBT_TAPE I receive the ANS0101E error below:

RMAN run {

allocate channel t1 type 'sbt_tape'

parms=ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin/tdpo.opt);

backup

incremental level = 0

format = 'level0_%d_%s_%p.bus'

(database include current controlfile);

release channel t1;

}

From a TSM library manager instance, is there a way to tell which mounts (q
mount)
are related to a particular TSM library client instance?

A q mount lists the volumes mounted, and a q libvol for those volumes
would show the owning instance . . . . but I'm thinking there must be a more
direct way.

Re: TSM and ASR recovery of Windows 2003 server

2006-08-23 Thread Pitt, Stuart
Hi Tim,

Yes we've seen this problem with our HP servers. What we do is create a
slipstream cd with windows 2003, sp1 and the nic card drivers on it.(of
course you may be using 2003 G2) We use a useful utility called nlite. It's
gui based and is freeware. Another way to get around this problem is to
install the nic card drivers from the dos window that you get at the select
option 1 for network or 2 for local backupset. The dos window is minimized
when you get to this window.

Hi Stuart,

If you want to keep your backups based on time,
your management classes should look something like this:

   VEREXISTS NOLIMIT
   VERDELETED NOLIMIT
   RETEXTRA30
   RETONLY 30

This will make sure all backups are kept for at least
30 days, regardless of how many times the backups are run.

Migrating windows clients to AIX

2006-08-09 Thread Pitt, Stuart
Hi List,

I have the opportunity of moving all my windows clients to an lpar on a P5.
We currently backup all windows clients to windows TSM servers. Now what I'm
after is how I go about this and move all my data. I'm guessing that I can't
just export the TSM DB from the windows server and put it on the AIX server.
I know I can do server to server exports, but there's the time involved to
do this. I can also just start afresh and let the data expire on the windows
servers.

Is there anything else I can try.

Label length on 3584 Library

2006-07-09 Thread Pitt, Stuart
Hi Guys,

Anyone know if it's possible to change the label length from 8 to 6 on the
3584 library. The reason I ask is that we are migrating from an HP
712e(lto2) library which has the label length set to 6 and were planning on
putting the LTO2 tapes from this library into the 3584 library which has
LTO3 drives. If I cant change this them I'm going to have to run the
librarys side by side until all the data is migrated.

Hi Tim,

I have heard references about that, but I don't really know what it is? Is
there a tool to create a 'custom' Windows 2003 O/S install CD? Or are
people just hacking up MS's native CD image? (To be totally honest, I
really don't want to know that deeply how MS does a very complex install...I
just want it to work. :) )

The TSM CD that is created in the field-guide below is just the command-line
TSM backup client and the ASR process prompts for this CD and silently
installs the TSM client from it...so there is no opportunity to put NIC
drivers on it.

I'll read up on BartPE. I appreciate the info. :)

Jim,
Make sure the CD you created has the proper NIC driver for the bladecenter
server, and make sure you have DHCP.

We couldn't use the TSM+ASR method because security policy prohibited us
from using DHCP in certain networks, so we're looking into using BartPE
+TSM plugin, which could be another way to go for you.

Tim.

I have a reclaimation process which is an automated scheduled job. It

I have also changed the status of this process from Active=Yes to Active=No.

Trying to perform an ASR on a server. We get to the step where we are asked

I'm assuming it's referring to the TCPServeraddress. The TSMasr.opt file has
the tsm Server name in it not the ip address. Am I correct or is it
something different.

Re: Domino Client question

2006-01-27 Thread Pitt, Stuart
Farren,

All you need to do is follow the instructions for setting up a client node
and just give it a different name and a different dsm.opt file. So for
example you already have abcdefg as a node name with a opt file called
dsm.opt. Create a second client called abcdefg1 with an opt file called
dsm1.opt.

Hi Farren,

For long-term archival, you should still use the
Data Protection for Domino client because you want to
make sure that the databases being backed up have
full integrity.

Many customers accomplish this by setting up a
secondary TSM NODENAME like DOMSRV1_ARCHIVE and
perform a monthly Data Protection for Domino backup
using a different nodename with different
policy setting to meet their longterm archival needs.

Another thing you can look at is IBM DB2 CommonStore for Lotus Domino:

 Hi Del

OK, that all makes sense, but in this case where we are doing full
backups
every weekend, and if we wanted to keep data for a year (at least) we
are
going to end up with 52 full copies of the db in backup. Which again
leads
me to think that the domino client may not be the best tool for long
term
archive storage of data. Would I be right in thinking this, or is this
the
way things are generally done with domino databases?

 All the best

 Farren
