Re: DR Question -
We have TSM 5.3.0.0. on AIX and backup about 177 WINTEL servers , We would like to implement DR module..has any body had any experience with DR manager ? Any insight. Currently we do weekly backup and copy prime copy on site pool to backup offsite backup copy pool along with TSM server database then we send offsite copy backup pool ( for DR purposes ) to offsite storage. Our DR pools are about 135 lto2 tapes. We have three such pools in rotation. IS there any better way to do DR strategy ? Thanks, Ashok

Hi All, We need to find how much storage is being used by each TSM client. I get reports which indicate how much data is being backed up by each tsm client but I am not able to find how much data is being stored for each client. Is there any query or select statement I can use to get the info from TSM ? Thanks, Ashok

Re: general question on TSM backups TSM 5.3.0.0 on AIX 5.3
I have come across people talk about backup Generation examplewe keep 5 generation of backups or 4 generations of backup. I am not sure I understand this term , I think it came from main frame ...? We have retention period set to 30 days. and do daily incremental and weekly backup on Windows systems and sql db. IS that mean our one generation is all the backups taken for 30 days or one generation is daily backup ? Appreciate any education on it.

We are always very low on the Scratch tape we run reclamation using TSM admin. schedule. I am not sure what are the factors which decides how long we need to keep these volumes around. Also Does anybody have a storage pool defined for TSM DB backups. is it possible to do that ? Re: library tapes
I am a bit confused now taking inventory of my tapes in our 3485lib I do q libv. When I do q Libv and count the tapes does it already count for the tapes/ tape pools which are off site or it is the current physical tapes in the library onsite excluding offsite tapes. We are trying to see how many toatl tape we have in TSM and then how many physically in the lib on site. thanks Ashok Vats 916-845-3767

Re: Best way to compare the pools ?
We have primary pool and offsite pool. We run backup from primary to offsite pool everyday using cron. I was wondering what is the best practice to copy primary to offsite pool ? Also how do I compare the two pools to see if offsite is caught up with primary. Typically I use q * * stg=primarypool q * * stg=offsitepool but it takes a long time to run these commands compare the output. Appreciate any help Thanks, Ashok

Are these in minutes ? -Original Message- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Gerald Michalak Sent: Tuesday, November 08, 2005 11:10 AM To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Re: [ADSM-L] Log pinned, filled, almost crashed Here's the technote. Problem Long-running sessions with poor throughput or hung sessions can cause the recovery log to become pinned. This can ultimately result in the TSM Server abending due to an over-committed recovery log. Cause Solution The THROUGHPUTDATATHRESHOLD and THROUGHPUTTIMETHRESHOLD options were introduced to help prevent hung sessions or long-running sessions from pinning the recovery log for any extended period of time. When the THROUGHPUTDATATHRESHOLD and THROUGHPUTTIMETHRESHOLD options are specified in the dsmserv.opt file, the TSM Server will check the status of a client session after the session has been running for X amount of time, where X is the time specified for the THROUGHPUTTIMETHRESHOLD. If the average throughput for this session does not meet or exceed the value specified for THROUGHPUTDATATHRESHOLD, then the session will be cancelled by the TSM Server, thus preventing the recovery log from becoming over-committed.
