Re: register license not working

2004-07-12 Thread David Longo
The register licens ecommand now works a little differently.
Instead of you say having 50 and want 10 more and
using a register command to add 10, you just use the register
command and the value 60. In other words, what ever value
you use when running register license, that is what you have!

People not used to this can easily lower their license registration.
Also there is no longer licenses registered in groups of 10 or 50.
Just put in the exact value you want in one command.

Hey everyone!

I tried to register licenses on our new AIX TSM 5.2.2.5 server and I
noticed that each piece has 50 registered (which I thought was bizarre). I
tried to register 110 mgsyslan.lic licenses with the following command and
it is not changing... register license file=mgsyslan.lic number=110 Any
suggestions? Also, since when is there a line that states the number of
xxx in try buy mode:0 ? I've never seen anything like this before...

Number of TDP for Oracle in use: 0
Number of TDP for Oracle licensed: 50
Number of TDP for Oracle in try buy mode: 0

Thanks!

Does anyone know exactly where the dsmlicense should permanently reside and

Re: register license not working

2004-07-12 Thread Kauffman, Tom

I show dsmlicense in /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin with the same dates as
the .lic files -- this is the command that is run to add licenses. I
would assume that you could find it on the base install media for the
version of TSM you're running.

I'm not sure where the encrypted license file ends up (the output of the
dsmlicense command) but it sounds like that's been blown away as well.
Is it possible that someone at your site was attempting to reduce the
number of licenses by deleting the license file and re-registering --
and got the wrong file the first time?

Hi Tom!

This server is new and the TSM instance is new as well. I am the only

When I registered the licenses, they were committed and I received the
basic response of the old vs. new licenses registered. (I do this through

rebooted and when it came back up it couldn't find the dsmlicense file in
the /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin directory. Yes, it does appear as if this
file has been blown away. By who? I can't answer that. We have a
separate group that installs software, so they were installing the TSM
software and I customize and adminstrate the TSM environment. All of the
individual license files are under the bin directory, ie: mgsyslan.lic,
drm.lic, etc. but as the activity log states, to start up the server it
needs that dsmlicense file in the /bin directory. Is there a way to
recreate or copy this file from another server? Or would I have to
reinstall the whole TSM package? Thanks for any advice/info. on this!

How about just restore from TSM backup?
Or just reinstall that fileset.

In Smit, List files in a fileset, not much involved with
my license fileset, as below

 /usr/bin/dsmlicense - /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmlicense
 /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/README.LIC
