Re: Tivoli books

2006-07-24 Thread Rob Berendt
Something I've not done, and been beaten up a little on this list for, is
not read the standard manuals that come with the product.

Perhaps the concepts guide and the implementation guide would be a good
place to start? This link below may not point to the latest and greatest
but I found it pretty quick.
http://my.adsm.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Web_Links&file=index&req=viewlink&cid=3

I found the FAQ on the http://my.adsm.org to be without any questions, but
I hadn't logged in yet. I did find on the links page a link to 9 other
faq's.

Like you, I used to start a new thread by replying to an existing email
and just changing the subject line. However I don't do that anymore for
three reasons:
1 - Wouldn't want to forget to change the subject line.
2 - Why would someone start a new thread this way with "with history" and
leave all the garbage at the end that I trimmed off in my reply?
3 - Some list archives really look screwy when threads go off on a
tangent. Not all threads link strictly by subject line. Sometimes they
are intelligent enough to catch something less visible in the memo.

Pablo,

In addtion to this list, the IBM TSM manuals and Redbooks are excellent
resources.

Here're some links for the product . . .

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/search.wss?rs=663&tc=SSGSG7&rank=8&dc=DA4A20+DA700&dtm

Hope this helps.

Mahesh

Subject: [ADSM-L] To DirMC, or not to DirMC

I was looking over some recent TechNotes and ran into two
contradictory
items.

TechNote 1154049 "TSM server storage--Handling of client directory
objects" preaches the old religion of using a separate management
class
and disk pool for Windows and Novell directory objects to speed
restore.

TechNote 1240913 "DIRMC has little effect on restore performance"
makes
the case that DIRMC is obsolete and unnecessary.

These two TechNotes are both dated within the last month.

Anybody from IBM want to clear this up?
