Thank you Mark, Andy, Wanda, Shawn, and Yudi. Your suggestions are doing the trick. Do not use INCLUDE/EXCLUDE to accomplish this for a given node. Otherwise when you run the incremental backup that includes the .pst files, they will be backed up (if changed). Then when you run the incremental backup that excludes the .pst files, the existing backup versions will be expired on the TSM server, subjecting them to VERDELETED and RETONLY settings. It is never a good idea to bounce back and forth between including and excluding files like this. If you really need to back the files up in this fashion, you can use separate options files as you describe, but make sure each uses a unique node name. This makes restore slightly more complicated in that you'll need to remember to run the restore for both nodes. A (perhaps) simpler approach would be to just let the other files backup also back up .pst files (if it can), then schedule a separate backup to run later that targets the *.pst files specifically. Re: syntax question
Create another dsm.opt file, (example dsm2.opt), state the include of *.pst files. I think at the objects you don't need to specify *.pst, just the drive, because the other files are already back up (on the first incremental backup). Re: syntax question
Unfortunately, you can't use wildcards in the objects field. You need to specify exactly what you are backing up. For what you want, I would recommend using include/exclude options in separate .opt files Another option is to do some hacking in a preschedcmd script. Re: syntax question
You not only need separate opt files, you need 2 node names. If one backup runs with an include for .pst and the next backup has an exclude for .pst, all the .pst files will be expired.
