TSM reporting tool - unable to email reports
I have TSM's reporting tool installed, Version 5 release 3 level 3.0. Everything works fine except I can not email the reports. When I attempt to email the report I receive the following messages: Email was not sent to one or more recipients Reason: Error - Failed to connect to SMTP server Any suggestions will be appreciated. The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain CONFIDENTIAL material. If you receive this material/information in error, please contact the sender and delete or destroy the material/information.
Re: TSM reporting tool - unable to email reports
Try using the IP address of your mail server ( or you may have a mail relay going on which you may need to specify ). Check to see if you can telnet to the mail server on port 25 from a DOS prompt to see if you can establish connectivity with the mail server. I had problems trying to email the reports until I found that the antivirus program running in the background on the Windows box was blocking email being sent from the PC running Windows XP. Check with your email admin and make sure the account is setup. Had the same problem on my end. Re: Limits to TSM Reporting Tool?
There's a limit of 62 reports (or was, for the 5.2.X versions). The service apparently can't handle more than that. I work around it by creating batch files that execute the reports/monitors from the command line, and run them from the windows scheduler. Works like a champ. -Lloyd On Fri, 10 Mar 2006 10:22:55 -0500 Dennis Melburn W IT743 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote thusly: Is there a limit to the number of reports (aka containers) that the reporting tool can handle? Re: Limits to TSM Reporting Tool?
Are they all to the same server? I find that operational reporting tends to be pretty resource intensive on the server. I've run into lock issues that required killing sessions to free up. If you have several TSM servers, you might try disabling specific reports to see if things are OK on all except certain servers (specifically, ones with fewer resources available). -Josh On 06.03.10 at 10:22 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Date: Fri, 10 Mar 2006 10:22:55 -0500 From: Dennis Melburn W IT743 [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU To: ADSM-L@VM.MARIST.EDU Subject: Limits to TSM Reporting Tool? Re: simple tsm reporting tool
From: Justin Bleistein [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm looking for a simple tsm reporting tool to setup a report of how much data each client node respectively is backing up daily?. If you turn TSM accounting on, you create an accounting log that breaks down backups/restores/archives/retrieves by node by day. For more information, search for the word accounting in the PDF of the TSM administrator's guide relevant to the OS of your TSM server. -- Mark Stapleton ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Berbee Information Networks Office 262.521.5627
Re: simple tsm reporting tool
Justin, If simple reporting is all you're looking for, if you use Microsoft Office, just pull query results into an Excel spreadsheet via the ODBC connection. Both Excel and Access offer extensive data filtering and analysis tools that can be applied to the incoming data. That's what we do and it has given us just about everything we need to monitor and report on our TSM system. Our system has about 110 nodes, 7 TB online, and manages a total of 21 TB. We have seen no need for anything fancier. You will have an additional service running assuming you want to automate the reports other than that nothing else required as I recall. TSM Reporting tool advice
My client has a Service Level Agreement with his customers that assures them of a minimum of one full (selective) backup of their workstations per year. There are currently in excess of 1500 workstations and 300 servers that are TSM clients. It is a simple matter to identify the workstations and schedule TSM to run the backups. What isn't so simple is to find/develop a tool that reports success or failure of scheduled backups via e-mail or some other such means. My client prefers commercial-off-the-shelf products so Tivoli Decision Support will, obviously, be investigated. Does anyone know of any other products that could be used? I have not heard anything encouraging about Tivoli Decision Support and if doesn't work out then I'll be writing my own tool with the ODBC driver and the TSM API, (probably on a Windows platform :-(. Has anyone done this before. Please don't question the wisdom of promising users a yearly full backup of their workstations - it's a done deed! Thank you. __ Games, Movies, Music Sports! http://entertainment.yahoo.ca
Re: TSM Reporting tool advice
Douglas, TDS is not so bad but we recommend it for customers having a bunch of Tivoli products. This is where the product is targeted. For TSM only reporting try to look at Servergraph/TSM (www.servergraph.com). It is TSM dedicated tool, less expensive and easier to install/maintain. Look through adsm.org archives for opinions on it. Here are three others that I know of... Servergraph/TSM, CA/Vantage and StorServer Manager. We are testing out Servergraph/TSM and we are happy with this one. Most places will give you 30 days trial.
