Re: TSM Server connecting to ESS by FC

Yeah, I have some 50m cables. They will make whatever you want at Cable
Express. IBM only has 2 lengths. Their cables are extremely expensive,
though they are good cables. IBM only sells 50u cables, so be careful
mixing in a run. It will cause you problems.

You can also buy longer cables - just not from IBM. We have in the past
provided our customers with longer cables when required.

Actually, if you get the barrel device you can connect two FC cables to
make
them longer. Note that you do not want to make more than 2 connections
like
this between the light sources.

The longest shortwave cable allowed is 500 meters, for 50um multimode
fiber
(ESS FC 3022). You just need to get longer cables than the 31m cables
included with the ESS. For reference, look at the intro to SAN redbook,

Hello all,
I want to connect a new TSM Server (AIX) to our ESS with a FC Cable.
Our longest FC cable is 31 metres long. But I want to place the server
in a
room, which is more than 31 metres away.
Could anyone show me a Webpage or any other information where I can find
informations about the possibilities to use cables longer than 31
Metres.
Someone told me, that this is the longest possible cable.but I
cannot
believe it.
(I know, this isn't really a TSM question, but if someone could help me,
this
would be great)
Greetings

If you are going to order your own cables, just look up the specs in
either the IBM sales Manual or in the IBM product Installation manual
and buy them from a reliable dealer and you should have no problems.
When we order cables, we tell our supplier the exact specs: 50u,
multimode and also the connectors: SC, LC, MT-RJ, IBM Duplex Connector
and the length. We have had no problems with any of the cables we have
ordered.
