Urgent: dsmj omn AIX does not open GUI
Hello, I'm trying to make and archive from my AIX clients using GUI. I only have today for Downtime on my 12 AIX Servers. Dsmj do not start client GUI, and I cannot know why. Anyone can help? Thank you. I connect remotely on each servers and do the following: #Export DISPLAY=[MY_IP:0.0] #cd /usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin #dsmj Here it open a BA GUI interface (temporary) and then I received the following box message: ANS2609S TCP/IP communications failure between the browser and the client machine. On AIX side: # dsmj Exception in thread main # # cat dsmj.log *** commOpen: java.net.SocketException: Connection timed out:could be due to invalid address java.lang.NullPointerException at COM.ibm.storage.adsm.cadmin.comgui.DcgApplicationController.cgInitialize Controller(DcgApplicationController.java:2773) at COM.ibm.storage.adsm.cadmin.clientgui.DDsmApplication.StartUp(DDsmApplic ation.java:646) at COM.ibm.storage.adsm.cadmin.clientgui.DDsmApplet.start(DDsmApplet.java:7 47) at COM.ibm.storage.adsm.cadmin.clientgui.DDsmApplet.main(DDsmApplet.java:96 8) # cat dsmwebcl.log 12/30/09 11:57:11 (dsmagent) IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 12/30/09 11:57:11 (dsmagent) Remote Client Agent - Built Mar 13 2009 19:05:49 12/30/09 11:57:11 (dsmagent) Version 5, Release 5, Level 2.0 12/30/09 12:04:02 (dsmagent) IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 12/30/09 12:04:02 (dsmagent) Remote Client Agent - Built Mar 13 2009 19:05:49 12/30/09 12:04:02 (dsmagent) Version 5, Release 5, Level 2.0 12/30/09 12:05:35 (dsmagent) IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 12/30/09 12:05:35 (dsmagent) Remote Client Agent - Built Mar 13 2009 19:05:49 12/30/09 12:05:35 (dsmagent) Version 5, Release 5, Level 2.0 l43fis23:/usr/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin # dsmc IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Command Line Backup/Archive Client Interface Client Version 5, Release 5, Level 2.0 Client date/time: 12/30/09 12:06:42 (c) Copyright by IBM Corporation and other(s) 1990, 2009. Re: Urgent: dsmj omn AIX does not open GUI
If you have not already, take a look at IBM Technote 1389435. In any case, given the number of clients you intend to work with, it would seem that the CLI would be the best, fastest vehicle for accomplishing the work. Richard Sims

Perform: dsmc archive -SUbdir=Yes /FileSystemName/ for each file system, being sure to have a slash on the end. You can get a list of local file systems in AIX via /opt/freeware/bin/df --local
