left over. Using residential enclosures and resplicing to length at the
botton. gives us 4 APs and tow backhauls potential

Re: [AFMUG] Fiber up the tower

2018-12-27 Thread Carl Peterson
We've just started using Clearfield pre-made pushable or strong fiber
spools pulled through 10/6 duct up to the radio. We use BiDi so just one
strand but if you wanted a feed to a tower top they could make you MPO
cables that you could route to a YourX terminal up top through 14/10.

I wish someone made a 10/6 duct with copper conductors on the outside of
it. Like Clearfield
s toneable 10/6 except with two larger conductors under the outer wrap
instead of the single small tone wire. Would be perfect for Siklu instals
as you could run the duct right into their long connector and split off the
conductors to power the radio.

We use Bestronics custom hybrid cable pre-terminated armor direct bury
type. Has 1 pair 12awg stranded and 2 pair SM or MM strands. Been doing
it for a while with no issues.

Just did 250 full medusa install with DDB cabinet topside for all
terminations to go.

We are looking for Single mode 4 strand – 2 LC Duplex at each end.
140 foot lengths.   They will be run up inside a monopole.

Are you using armored?  Outdoor?  What?

Andy,

Mind sharing exactly what tools you use to terminate ends on this cable? We
have always ordered pre-made cables, but we're interested in starting to
terminate our own. We have a spool of this same cable just sitting there doing
nothing at the moment.

Thanks,

I got some custom assemblies from Fiber Instrument Sales. It was a
"core locked" fiber, which basically means the glass is buried in an a lot of
plastic. We only got one LC duplex on each end, but I bet they could have done
2.

The lead time wasn't terribly long.

Shipping is a little steep, I think I pay about $60 for the shipping. I
have not touched or used the Cambium fiber cables yet, but they are very
cost competitive. And supposedly built to plug directly into an 820
radio. I'm going to be getting some shortly.

Item 29606, Customized 4 Fibers Indoor/Outdoor Single Mode
Pre-Terminated Assembly, 2.0mm Breakout Cable. You can select a
custom length. It's not a super heavy cable fiber, so I don't think
suspension would be a problem, but it also didn't feel flimsy like the
UBNT "tough fiber". We've run them vertically on 100'+ grain legs
without a problem. I put pulling eyes on both ends just to help with
installation, helps protect the ends as you unspool.
