We have a handful of Radwin 2000's which only support 2000 bytes, so 
that's where I have it set. 
Some day when those are gone we'll go to 9000+ 

The internet is at 1500 only as long as the networks it consists of are 
at 1500. If everybody moves their MTU upward then the internet will 
eventually support larger frames.

We do 9192 everywhere possible in the core … jumbo frames etc… last mile access 
1540-1600 we try to achieve if equipment along the path supports it ….

Mainly this is to support VLAN tags, MPLS paths where applicable etc etc….

It all depends on the network, what you're using now, and what you may use
in the future. There is no cookie-cutter MTU.

I use 9216 internally so giving a customer 9k jumbo frames on MPLS isn't 
a problem.
