We do now and then.  They are painfully slow and costly.  Great for 
prototype plastic parts so  you can get it just how you want before  you 
make a mold.

Been really wanting to get one myself to play with.  Any
recommendations for something economical to start out with?

 Looking for someone that uses a 3D printer at work.  I have some kids
 that are working on a project and need to interview someone that uses
 3D printers at work on a regular basis.
