http://wisptools.net/tools-linkbudget.php works really well, just remember
it uses EIRP as transmit power with 0 dBm transmit power

RX = 38 gain,  TX = 33 gain

Is there a good link estimation utility for the Airfiber 24 HD?

I like the UBNT online link calculator, but it doesn't work with 24Ghz?

This is the link I just put up, shouldn't the chains all be about equal dB?
What does it mean when the second chain is so much different from the first
on these units?

Don't even know if the dB is dialed in at this range :(

I know WISPA will be reaching out shortly to see what we can do to integrate
the Animal Farm experience into WISPAmerica. We hope Chuck can participate
with us! WISPAmerica by default is always a more tech heavy show anyways.

For those that are WISPA members… the Agenda committee had its first meeting
last week. Every Thursday at 3pm EST. If you don’t want to join –we need
topic ideas. Send them to age...@wispa.org

Animal Farm has its own feel that can’t be replicated. I’ll be at the next one
for certain.

[AFMUG] Lady bug deterrent

2015-12-26 Thread Jay Weekley
Does anyone know of a way to keep lady bugs out of your equipment
boxes? Mothballs? Flee collars? Those mosquito repellent bracelets?
Oh, Mr. Fuller, we have lady bugs in our equipment box at Helicon.

Re: [AFMUG] Lady bug deterrent

2015-12-26 Thread Ken Hohhof
Our problems with them peaked about 5 years ago, either a drought year
killed off the aphids that the ladybugs feed on, or the latest pesticides on
the crops, in any case I don't see that many ladybugs anymore.

In fall they look for a place to hibernate for the winter (like inside walls
and attics). They prefer white sunny surfaces. So put your equipment box
on the north side, don't paint it white, and seal up all the cracks where
they can get in. Maybe put some screen or pantyhose over any vent openings.
Are these NEMA 4 boxes, or just rainproof?

I assume you have the orange Asian variety that bite and stink if you scare
them. If Trump is elected, I expect he will deport them and then build a
wall to keep them out. If you have the native red ladybugs, they are good
bugs and you should welcome them and take it as a good omen. Even the
orange ones don't eat your stuff or lay eggs, but they squirt smelly liquid
if scared. Most people advise vacuuming them and throwing out the bag.
What I hate are the earwigs which leave earwig poop everywhere. We also
have trouble with the box elder beetles.

Any pesticide would have to be applied where they would die before getting
into your box. Killing them inside the box probably doesn't accomplish
anything.

Reminds me of “Question Time” or “Prime Minister’s Questions” in the
Westminster system of government.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEjHuarHgCI

Ideally they would also discuss their product roadmap, not just what they are
announcing at the show. And since at Animal Farm the animals run the farm,
they would get to tell the farmers what they think should be on the roadmap.
