This should be consistent that any given sortition is for a single
office. E.g. "a specified office" would allow any office. So: "While a
sortition for an office is in its lots period, any player CAN become an
option for that office."

Also, the second sentence might want to say "for each sortition" just to
avoid any risk of accidentally trampling on elections.

I don't think this should directly ENABLE the random choice, rather have
some Named Action that requires a random choice, with R2505 filling in
the requirements.

Also, "becomes the officeholder for that office" might be clearer.

Lol, proofreading. Not assigned to everyone, randomly assigned to one
person among anyone that shows interest.

I realize now this kind of obscures what offices it's affecting. I only
used that wording to copy/paste more easily. The offices are Absurdor,
Webmastor, Collector, Geologist, Stonemason, Illuminator.

DIS: [Proto] Sortition

[This proposal experiments with a much older idea of democracy -
sortition. In this process, instead of an election the office is
randomly assigned to everyone that shows interest at regular intervals.
In theory the advantages is that it avoids us becoming too reliant on a
specific officer or workflow, and gives everyone a chance to
participate.

In this proposal I propose changing some of the less essential offices
to this process, as an experiment.]

Enact a new Power = 2 rule titled "Sortition Procedure" with the
following text:

At the beginning of each quarter, the ADoP CAN by announcement, and
SHALL in a timely manner, initiate a sorition for each sortitioned
office if e has not already done so for that office.

When a sortition is initiated, it enters the lots period. Any player
CAN become an option for a specified office during this period. If
a person ceases to be a player during this period, e also ceases to
be an option for all offices.

Seven days after a sortition is initiated, the lots period ends. The
ADoP CAN by announcement, and SHALL in a timely manner after the
lots period ends, randomly select one of the options for that
office. When e does so, that player becomes the officeholder.

Amend R1006 (Offices) by replacing:

An imposed office is an office described as such by the rule
defining it. All others are elected.

with:

Imposed offices and sortitioned are offices described as such by the
rules that define them. All other offices are elected

Amend R2683 (The Boulder) by replacing "is an office" with "is a
sortitioned office".

Amend R2616 (The Webmastor) by replacing "is an office" with "is a
sortitioned office".

Amend R2659 (Stamps) by replacing "is an office" with "is a sortitioned
office".

Amend R2685 (Crystals) by replacing "is an office" with "is a
sortitioned office".

Amend R2640 (Stones) by replacing "is an office" with "is a
sortitioned office".

Amend R2656 (Radiance) by replacing "is an office" with "is a
sortitioned office".
