2019-06-09 Thread Hamit Campos
If the subject line is a bit screwed up sorry about that. But here's a
vid of a cool large diafram condencer that is a recorder but also I
guees you can hook it to the IPhone.

Hi,
I’ve found another audio editor for the Mac called Twistedwave which is
incredibly accessible and easy to use plus you get great value for money with
the Lite version which I’m using now.
Firstly the App uses cursor keys to get about so you would use say home to get
to the beginning and end to get to the end of the file.
Left and right cursor keys move you through the file whilst up and down cursor
keys change the length of that movement.
There are facilities to fine tune your selection and navigation.
For example the user can type a specific time at which to place the cursor in
the file or use the selection editor to fine tune the beginning and end points
of a selection.
Plenty of keyboard shortcuts exist and all can be edited to make the learning
kerb a little easier if required.
Recording facilities are provided allowing recording from multiple inputs as
well as punch-in recording.
Extra channels can be added to a recording though I’ve not explored this
feature as yet but will certainly do so.
Twistedwave has an effects menu so the user can either use the provided effects
or add their own efforts, VST and 64-bit are all supported.
Plenty of generation options such as tone generation, speech generation etc are
also provided which is a nice convenient touch to any audio software.
My only complaint at this time is the lack of audio formats supported but
that’s probably a restriction of the Lite version.
Sop long as a Lossless audio format is supported then I’m not worried as I have
other tools to convert to such formats as FLAC and anything else outside the
standard formats used on the Mac by apple.
The lite version of Twistedwave costs $30 from the Mac Apps Store.

Re: [all-audio] Yesterday's Apple event

2019-06-09 Thread Dane Trethowan
I should warn you before you go ahead with your iMac purchase that the
modern-day iMac - as great a tool as it is - does not have a built-in sound
device any longer, only built-in microphones and a headphone output so you’re
going to need some sort of external sound Interface more than likely.
There are of course many interfaces available so take your pick.
As to why Apple decided to take away the built-in sound Interface from the Mac
line? Well that’s Apple for you ain’t it .
I think it only fair to point out to you that - if its the all-in-one
convenience you grave then there are Windows alternatives if you would rather
not go down the Mac road.
I have been using Mac machines now for. 25 years full-time and I have enjoyed
every minute of my experience.
I started with a Mac LC-630 machine with Outspoken.
Apple lead the charge with the Introduction of the VoiceOver Screen Reader in
OSX Tiger back in 2005, thankfully Windows has followed suit with Narrator.

Thank you for bringing this model of speaker to my attention.
The thing I really liked about the Amazon Alexa Tap was its portability even
though this was limited to the boundaries of a Wifi network there will still
ways around this.
One could take the Tap wherever one wanted to journey to and use the Hotspot
feature of your Smart Device as a Wifi connection to the Tap.
Overkill one might say and that’s true but one has to admit that Voice
Assistants are just damn convenient particularly when they perform the tasks
you wish to your exacting standards .

Dane, I am also thinking of getting an IMac, since then you have
everything in one, and its goog for audio, and I get the full feature
set in apps like garageband and yes, ios don't have something like
audio hijack yet.
And if you need to get the job done, weel then that is just necessary.
And IMac also have stereo speakers.

Hi Gina,
Google Assistant is very good at understanding human voice. Probably the best
at it at the moment.
Alexa is almost just as good, but dear miss Siri lacks quite a bit behind.
The response voice that comes with Siri is seriously upgraded with iOS 13 which
definitely sutes her!

Re: [all-audio] Yesterday's Apple event

2019-06-09 Thread Tom Kaufman
I have a bit of a speech impediment that also causes her to not always
understand what I say; I will send a text message, using Siri; if I say
something that has the "R" sound, she'll sometimes get it wrong!

[all-audio] Google With Voice

2019-06-09 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi,
I like the "Search By Voice" facility in Google Chrome so naturally was
wondering if there's a way to use Google Search by Voice to listen to Radio
Stations and Podcasts as one can do with the Google Assistant?

Some kind person sent me a list of these playlists to import to PlextalkPocket
WebRadio Folder. However in the process of transferring accomodation to an age
care facility and changing computers they have disapppeared.
The Plextalk manual suggests that I visit Shoutcast and download individual
.pls files. Can't find what I want on this site. Are there any other sites from
which I can get these files?
Andrea

Re: [all-audio] Portable digital recorders

You can use dropbox with many iphone apps to export audio from an iphone.

Hello,

I forgot to return to the fact that the DAC Digital to Audio Converter is not
the best. So whatever bit rate and depth is used, or whatever microphone is

video and camera functionality in the past. I am really seeking something more

This works with your iphone and will make recordings in binaural stereo.
Especially if you are recording something like a dragonboat race in which you
are participating, a person listening to your recordings wearing headphones
will think they are piloting the dragonboat. Binaural recordings give a very
lifelike experience to the listener.
I agree with Dane in the sense that I think any iphone out there today will
make as good a recording as the zoom h6 or h8. Also, depending on the iphone
recording app you are using and the amount of storage space you have on your
iphone, you can record at 48 kilohertz 24 kbps which is fine for high-quality
recordings.
Also, if you put your phone in airplane mode with a full battery charge, you
can get a whole day of recording off of one charge.
I wouldn't edit on the iphone, however. For that I would use some type of audio
editing software on the mac or pc, of which there are many good options.

Yes, I am looking at stuff that could be overkill but such equipment is an

Thanks, for your input. It is really making me think about how I get to my

The H4N Pro, H6 etc are all multi track recorders and fine recorders they are.
You may consider using the iPhone or the Galaxy phone you have.
I know with the iPhone I use a very nice recording tool called Twisted Wave or
the free TW Recorder.
Using the iPhone itself the recorder can record 48K Sampling. Rate in stereo
which may be all that is required for a demo when using speech.
Adapters may be required for use of particular microphones. With my iPhone I
use the Shure NV51 or NV88 microphones.
Amazon is a treasure trove for this sort of stuff so it might be worth spending
a few minutes doing a few searches, doing some browsing and see what you come
up with.
