Hello,

I forgot, there was a set of free courses for GoldWave and Reaper by
CAVI,

very much out of date now but I mention them because getting started with
audio is not seeking a DAW. The lectures for both DAWS were the same to
start with. These lectures were on subjects such as; What is sound and
how

is it generated?
How does a microphone work and what are the different types of
microphone?

What kinds of cables are required for audio production?
What is an interface and which one do I need to get started?

These are basic principles that are very important and I'd suggest an
essential for getting into audio as it will save lots of head
scratching and

unnecessary waisted purchases.

I just tried using my browser book mark and it appears that the domain
has
been pulled. Which is sad as the SD card that I had them stored died a
few

years ago.

friendliness as a DAW?

Hello.

The two programmes are not exactly equivalents. Reaper is much more
difficult to use, but it's also a more versatile programme that is a
fully
fledged multi-track recorder, editor, and you can even use it to drive
soft
synths and do midi. So it al depends on what it is you want to do.
Reaper is
more demanding and pretty  much assumes you have good audio hardware
right
out of the box. It works with aseo (sp) and Goldwave doesn't, but that
also

means, if you use a screen-reader, it's bestif it is on its own  audio
output in windows.
Goldwave is a great programme that can do all sorts of audio
processing --
one track at a time. It's not really made for music production. But it
can
still use vst effect plugins. I have used it for ages. Unfortunately I
have

had some trouble with the latest versions, first with a keyboard command
glitch (I consider it a problem because even though there's a solution
it's
not really documented anywhere I can see), and dictation mode, which I
use a

fair bit, not working. Still, you can get an older version if you want.
As for usability with a screen-reader, they both are, but you will
certainly
have to take some time to study up, read documentation and so on.
It'll be

more of a long haul with reaper for sure, so if you are just starting out
and not going to work with music production or midi stuff, I would think
goldwave would be an excellent tool. There's also audacity of course,
which

is kind of somewhere in between Goldwave and Reaper in terms of its'
abilities. It has a weird interface that I think isn't much like most daw
software, but that could actually be an advantage if you can't see the
screen and haven't used any other ones.

Hello,

I'm looking to get in to audio. I am wondering between Goldwave and

[all-audio] Needing an audio expert for some help

2023-11-19 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

I'm needing some help with what is probably bad audio, but it's the
best it's going to get. I have a raspberry pi 4 with a USB mic and I
had it pull in some audio. On Linux the mic was at 100%, but let's
just say audio was coming through some obstacles, and I need to see if
I can increase it's volume plus perform some other miracles on it.
I've got 22050khz .wav files as of now. I've got goldwave and
audacity, it's been years since I've done this and there might be a
time constraint.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply. What I did with my first go was to make the
podcast then use goldwave's maximize volume option to get the volume
to zero db without clipping.

I have been reading, and listening to tutorials and presentations
since my first podcast and have learned about vst plugins, that's
where I wondered about a compressor. I've also got some background
noise that my phone microphone picks up. It's from another room about
ten feet maybe 15 feet away I'm actually surprised the mic got it, if
possible i'd like to filter that out.

Can you explain EQ?

Thanks.

[all-audio] podcasting, any tips?

2021-02-15 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

I'm dipping in to podcasting. I've made and submitted one, but think I
could do better. The podcast is a demo which is recorded on my s10+
using amazing mp3 recorder, and demoing features of the phone so it's
also talking.

One thing I've noticed is sometimes the audio isn't right, it's either
to loud or not loud enough, I've maximized volume. I am using
goldwave6 with some added-vst-plugins for post-processing. The files
are recorded as wav files then saved as 44.1Khz 64Kbps mp3 files.

I thought about giving a compressor a go to make my voice crisper and
the phone volume more even as well, but don't want to smash things to
soundly.

I'd appreciate any tips.

Thanks.
Dave.

[all-audio] goldwave question, removing patterns of audio

2020-12-03 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

I've got a goldwave inquiry. I've got an audio track that is in a flac
format. It's got periodic music throughout mostly between sections of
audio. It's music and it's the same pattern throughout the file. What
i'd like to know is can I select said audio once the first time I hear
it and set goldwave to find all other occurrences of said audio and
remove it?

Thanks.
Dave.

Hello,

I am still in the market for a new recorder. I did look at zooms but
I'm needing menu accessibility with my recorder, I'm not really
needing an app or anything like that I am just looking for a
standalone recorder.

What are opinions on current Olympus recorders?

Thanks.

Re: [all-audio] Jfw, scripts, Goldwave6, and loud noise in audio

2020-04-30 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

With regards goldwave6, jfw 2020, and the scripts, has anyone noticed
that pressing a key such as left bracket or pause doesn't give
feedback such as where the start marker is, or the status of the
toggle?

Thanks.
Dave.

Re: [all-audio] Jfw, scripts, Goldwave6, and loud noise in audio

2020-04-30 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

It is kind of a personal nature.

What I can do is provide a sample of the noise that resides in the
file. I've tried everything I can to filter it out, drop the volume,
tried some band pass/stop, low and high pass, but i'm either not doing
it right, not the right settings, but I have reduced it, but in doing
so the underlying audio the stuff I'm trying to hear gets really tinny
sounding. Part of it is I did not make this and I think the person who
did it did not do well with it, they encoded at 22050KHZ I think but
it's slow, so that the full file is over 27 hours long, changing the
rate to 44100 makes it intelligible and drops the file length to just
over 13 hours.

Here's the link to the interference pattern I'm trying to eliminate.
Again I can use Goldwave, reaper, or audacity, if anyone has
suggestions i'm open to them.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/r8qba57lib1z0db/noise.wav?dl=0

Thanks.
Dave.

[all-audio] Jfw, scripts, Goldwave6, and loud noise in audio

2020-04-30 Thread David Mehler
Hello,

I'm using Goldwave6 with Jfw 2020 and it's scripts for same. I've got
a piece of audio that has a rather loud noise in it. I've captured a
sample of this noise not sure I got just the noise as it's very
audio-overwhelming and i'd like to filter it out. Right now I'm trying
to open the audio, then I'm going to save it as a flac file so I don't
damaage the mp3 file by repeatedly working on it, I get a lossless
file in the flac. I'm going to try to listen to just the left channel
and just the right channel, see if one is clear and/or if one has the
audio completely. This audio is just speech so any suggestions as to
how I can filter appreciated.

Note, I am not opposed to using other tools, I've got the latest
audacity on this machine as well as have got the free-for-time thanks
to kovid19, reaper. I've also got NVDA as a second screen reader.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks.
Dave.
