[all-audio] Question about warranty on Rode PodMic USB

2024-04-25 Thread Merv Keck
This is a strange situation. Tuesday I used my $199 Rode PodMic USB without any
issues. Yesterday exactly 24 hours later no one could hear me. I tried changing
cables, ports, settings on Zoom and Windows. I even took it to a different
computer. I also tried it with different apps on the same computer. I checked
to see if it was muted either on the Microphone or the computers.

I bought it January 17, 2024 on Amazon. I’m not certain if I am still under
warranty or how to go about dealing with it if I have to get it repaired or
replaced. I did not take out any extended warranty that amazon always offers on
such things. I went today and looked to see how long a warranty is offered by
default when you purchase the Microphone which is still #2 on amazon and rated
4.7. and it just said contact rode in Australia or use a specific email address
for warranty questions. I wrote the email address but so far have not received
a response.

I am wondering if anyone knows what a standard warranty is on a microphone when
purchased from amazon. Or what you do when a 4 month old microphone just seems
to up and die.
Thanks in advance.
Merv

Re: [all-audio] Accessible Field Recorder

2023-10-09 Thread Merv Keck
I don’t mind using apps so long as they are accessible. And I don’t mind XLR
microphones if I can find small, portable yet good quality microphones. I
mostly am trying to avoid having to look for sighted assistance every time I
need to set a time and date like with the Zoom P4. Or every time there is an
issue with the card in the unit. Also, on a recent pod makers review of another
product it was noted that many of these portable recorders require us to
memorize a great deal of menu options or carry around cheat sheets. I would
rather not have to do that.

I have my MacBook Pro and my Vocaster II with my Sure microphones and iPhone 14
Pro Max setup here at home. But would rather travel without a large backpack if
possible.

[all-audio] Accessible Field Recorder

2023-10-08 Thread Merv Keck
Greetings:
I recently saw a review of the Portcaster. It was a little more than I needed
and I am not really intrigued with the Zoom P4. I don’t really want to memorize
menus as I would prefer accessibility before usability.

I am anticipating being out and about more in the near future and would like to
have a portable recording option that is accessible. And has recording quality
for use in Podcasts. I like the idea of using up to two external microphones if
possible. but I can adapt.

I looked on Sweetwater since I live in the United States. But under portable
recorders I saw a lot of menu driven recorders with touch screens.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

[all-audio] Mackie Chromium Microphone?

2023-08-11 Thread Merv Keck
HI,
I recently heard a review of the Mackie Chromium Microphone with two channel
mixer by Neal Yours. I’m looking to replace my wife’s Yeti Pro on her MacBook
Pro M2. It was a good review, however, I did have a few questions if anyone is
familiar with this specific microphone.

I could not be sure if there was a mute button on the Microphone itself. Since
Mister Yours did the review I’m going to reckon that it is an accessible
microphone for someone without useable vision. I was also not clear if there
was a headset jack on the microphone. If there is a mute button, can you tell
when mute is on? With the Yeti, you cannot tell when the mute button is on by
the physical button. It is in the same position whether mute is on or off.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.
Merv

Re: [all-audio] Major Problem With Tapin Radio: Can Anyone Help?

2023-06-08 Thread Merv Keck via groups.io
The bug is not a browser issue but an issue that affects apps. And may not be
the issue you are having. However, touch cursor is shift + minus on the numpad
and PC cursor is hitting minus again twice to toggle it back off.
I often use the Touch cursor to move around as well as the Scan cursor. But
that is a discussion for a different list on a different day. Just try toggling
touch cursor on and then back off again and see if that changes anything in the
Tappin app.

2023-06-08 Thread Merv Keck via groups.io
When you encounter the issue in tappin, try activating the touch cursor and
then going back to the PC cursor.
I have Jaws 2023 and the paid version of Tappin. However, I need to reinstall
Tappin in order to update and test this as I have not installed it yet on my
windows 11 Pro. If this work around is successful then we just have to wait for
Microsoft to fix Edge.

[all-audio] accessible portable HD Radio

2020-08-24 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
I thought everyone in the United States at least had pretty much moved to
Online radio but someone I need to buy a gift for has her heart set on an HD or
super duper whammer jammer radio of some sort. As long as it is portable as in
battery operated and gets A M and FM and maybe has a few other bells and
whistles like HD or I don't care what else as long as it is accessible for a
totally blind individual. I also don't mind paying for quality which is why
I'm asking on this list as usually good quality items are only discussed on
this group.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was having trouble a log time ago and dumped Tap-In-Radio. My problem was
that the program would not update everytime a new version came out.
So as a result I got rid of the program. I even payed for the registration of
the program.

I must say it was a good program while it lasted.

[all-audio] My Adventures with my Blue spark Blackout

2019-08-28 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

I wanted to conclude my story about my Blue spark here. I hope this is not
considered being too chatty. I am doing this because I took the advice of
the group and ended up with a Rode Microphone instead. the one everyone
recommended. I still have the Apogee One Plus One so I only needed one for
vocal work and got the one that amazon had for around $260 US$ with a few
accessories. I'm blanking out on the model but in a big hurry at the
moment.

I had originally ordered the Blue spark during the week of amazon Prime for
about half of that and after six weeks of waiting I finally got refunded
when it did not arrive. The company said it was defective so they recalled
it and failed to notify me. I made out on the deal. I think the one I have
coming Friday is the NT1. I looked at both the NT4 and the NT1A anniversary
but decided on the one that everyone recommended.

Thanks everyone for their advice. I'll report on how it goes with what I
want to use it for.

Merv

Its interesting how many people just don't use the fingerprint reader or
perhaps who can't use a finterprint reader.
I Know someone who has an iPhone X and who can't get facial recognition to work
so.. you guessed it.. no fingerprint reader.

The finger print don't bother me either. I mean, after all, I probibly won't
even put a passcode on it as its not my phone, and so not the same important
stuff will live there.

I wonder how she would go with the new way that Samsung does fingerprint
reading with the Samsung Galaxy S10 where you just press the screen.
I'm not saying that she should get one of course, just curious.

That is correct. It is not a problem here though. she has some issues with
every fingerprint reader she has ever used on every phone and actually doesn't
miss it.

The iPhone 7 will be support for a few years yet so that doesn’t worry me in
the slightest.
I have an iPhone 8 as it is and did think about getting an iPhone 7 at the time
I bought the 8.
The iPhone 7 as far as I know uses the A10 chip as does the latest iPod touch
and that’s only 2 generations of chip behind the latest Apple iPhone X which
uses the A 12 as does the current iPad mini model.
I’m looking at the Tech Specs sheet here and a Fingerprint reader isn’t
mentioned so I’m going to have to go back in time and type my Password every
time I wish to unlock the device The iPod touch doesn’t support Apple
Pay either but then again I suppose it can’t given that it doesn’t have a
fingerprint reader.

I use a Logitech K480 which is a $22 keyboard from amazon that does not have a
numeric keyboard. But it is small and cheap and has the ability to pair
simultaneously with three devices at the same time. My wife pairs her K480 with
her iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. I pair mine with my iPhone, iPad and I used
to pair it with my apple TV 4 but I never use it anymore so now I pair it with
an Echo show 5 instead.

Re: [all-audio] Latest iPod touch does anyone have it

2019-07-22 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
I bought a 256 iPod Touch latest generation recently for my wife when her
Stream second Generation died. Her stream was not that old and she was not
getting any support. I decided it was more economical to get the new Touch. And
I never did think the Stream was a good choice. The Stream replaced the
Plextalk Pocket which she got at a significant discount and ended up giving
away because it was absolutely worthless in my humble opinion. Ok, not so
humble opinion. Laughs! I can't decide which one I hated worse.
As for the touch, it is a pretty nice little device if you want a secondary go
to device for portable listening and recording. She has a 12.9 512 GB iPad Pro
and an iPhone 8+ which she will be upgrading the phone this spring on the Next
plan with the 11 or whatever they call it this fall when it comes out. so for
her the touch is used mostly for books, podcasts, exercise workouts, and
recreational music on the fly.
The device itself is really compact compared to the 8+. It is sturdy and has
good sound for such a small device. Obviously not gigantic sound. It is really
little. But good sound for such a tiny device. And with the processor it runs
pretty much everything you need it to run. Some people scoffed at it because it
didn't have the new chip that the latest and greatest iPad Pro had. But unless
you plan on running this little tiny thing like an iPad Pro what did you need
that for?
My only real reservation or two reservations were: the battery life could be
better. Perhaps its size meant the battery was small? It needs charged more
often than I like. But we live in Florida. Hurricane country! So we both keep
enough external batteries handy to ride out a six day power outage at any given
time so that is not a problem.
The other reservation I have is I can't wait until every new device is switched
to USB C. My own personal preference. But this still has a lightning port and
an old fashioned earphone jack.
Having said all of that, I never leave the house myself. Or I would have bought
one without hesitation. I just didn't need one. I have my own 8+ and iPad Pro
and didn't need anything else.
Merv

[all-audio] Blue Spark Blackout

2019-07-08 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

Anyone have experience with the Blue Spark Blackout XLR condenser
Microphone? I needed a second microphone and this one is on sale for Prime
Day on amazon for $119.

I was just looking for a second XLR for a second chair when doing two person
recordings.

Re: [all-audio] Ferrite Recording Studio

2019-07-03 Thread Merv Keck
I did go ahead and get both Ferrite and Hokusai for around $39.98 combined $US.
It will take me a while to learn them with my iPad Pro. I am looking forward to
the experience. I used Adobe Audition years ago when I had vision. I was
encouraged by the noise reduction that is described on several reviews I read
for Ferrite Studio Pro. That was one of the major strengths of Adobe Audition.

Hi,
The original eMail was written 4 days ago and since then I’ve had more time to
play with Ferrite Recording Studio and so on.
Regarding normalisation? Ferrite shouldn’t require this function as it already
has an AGC which can be toggled in the settings.
In any case most people have a reference with their system that they can set
levels by so you will know pretty much straight away if the level is too high,
lower levels can be tolerated of course as there is no chance of clipping.
Secondly ferrite Recording Studio is ana absolute joy to use particularly if
you’re using an iPad with a keyboard connected, not only do you have the
excellent touch gestures and shortcuts at your fingertips but you also have
quite a good list of keyboard shortcuts to do the job with.

I am very grateful that this app developer has chosen to make the

Plus, according to what I have read in the App Store, the developer

Hi,

I see that both Ferrite and Hokusai are by the same developer. I'm looking
at them for my iPad Pro 2018. Do they serve different functions? Have a
different set of features? Or would it be redundant to have both?

I am considering the Pro version with add in purchases.

This is only a guess.
I tried to power a sound device - Creative Sound Blaster Omni - from the iPad
only to get an error, not enough power available.
All my Shure microphones work okay so they obviously take less power than does
the Sound Device.

[all-audio] Apogee One Plus One Microphone and Apogee Jam Plus Audio Interface

2019-04-16 Thread Merv Keck
Does anyone have any experience with the Apogee One Plus One Microphone or
the Apogee Jam Plus audio interface? According to the Apple store, both are
available now for both my iPad Pro 2018 and my iPhone. I was looking at them
for my iPad Pro and was wondering about accessibility.

Thanks in advance,

Merv

[all-audio] Eltrinex 12 pro field recorder

2018-08-03 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has checked one of these out? And how it compares
in quality to an Olympus recorder?

https://www.specialneedscomputers.ca/index.php?l=product_detail

I could live without the FM feature. But the rest sounds fairly decent. And
I'm not sure what the range is in recording formats and bitrate off the top
of my head. I would be interested in hearing intelligent and informed
opinions.

Thanks in advance.

Merv

Re: [all-audio] Looking For Equivalent to Olympus DS-40Recorder

2017-12-24 Thread Merv Keck
When I had sight up until about two years ago I used various multi-track
recorders and mixers. I no longer have any of those. I also sold all of my
guitars and basses except one. But I am hoping to eventually get back to
recording again if I find a suitable solution in the future.

Ah well I guess I write this too little too late. But, as far as accessibility
goes you got the most accessible 1 at this point. Look at it this way. Do you
use mikes with XLR? Do you need phantum power? Do you need those big thumb
sized jacks that some 90s headphones had? or that electric guitars I guess
still have? Will you produce music? Like a DR Drey? I ask all this as a long
way to ask do you need something like a Zoom? Because if no then yeah sure you
missed out on better quality, but meh you saved loads of cash. Just remember my
earlier warning. The recordings though real good and real crisp will sound
little. If things sounding little doesn't bother you then actually you got the
better 1 accessibility wise. You can now set the clock and stuff on your own on
this 1. On the 100 and even the 14 you would need a sighted person to do it.
