What is the use-case? For me, and the other commentor, it seems to be used more often by misstake than by will and the time lost is larger than finding the windows and pressing ctrl-w over and over again the few times you actually would want to use the feature. I've asked around and I've yet to find anyone that uses that menu-item, nor short-cut. Some window managers/OSes allow you to group windows of the same kind in some taskbar and close them all with the same menu item. Isn't that the feature users should use if they want that behaviour? What multi-doc interface application are we talking about? As a user, I see a text document in an editor, I see a text document for viewing and a spreadsheet, three different applications in three separate windows. Also I don't want to complicate things, but while juggling with the problem, another one arised on the same object: In all I had 11 calc graphs pasted into a Draw doc and grouped in 2 clusters. Here there were no problems in saving, but some of the graphs (seemingly at random) turned up not to be the correct ones after closing the saved doc and reopening it: 4 of them had disappeared and were replaced by duplicates of others present in the doc. I had to repaste the missing ones again from calc, for one of them I even had to do this twice to set things straight (at the first try in one case the newly pasted graph was again replaced by the copy of another). Until you save close and reopen the doc the thing can't be seen directly, but if you copy and paste the graphs in other docs (in any format like metafile GDI which overcomes the saving problem) the pasted copy is already wrong! This is a very dangerous bug, with no alert visible you risk to overlook the problem until somebody else makes you notice it when it's too late (in my case, during a presentation at a scientific meeting). The attached file opens fine in OOo 1.1.4. However, if an attempt is made to open in m128 (build Pavel Janik), OOo doesn't recognize the file type and proposes the File Type Selector Dialogue. Choosing OpenOffice Writer as the file type causes OOo to state that the file is defective, and asks whether it should be corrected. If this question is answered in the affirmative, OOo returns a failure message that the file could not be recovered.
