It is no problem to find the related export filter usually, but most of them need additional filter options, and the default set is very often not the base choice. Thus, such overwriting could lead to information loss. For now the only acceptable fix for the bug that I see, is to let the pure import filter based links be opened readonly. The general problem seems to be that the MathType export to Word filter in OOO
works incorrectly. Possibly, it is lagging in MathType language version, or
something. This is still an issue in 3.3.* and a major pain, too.
#22353 and #50130 are duplicates of this. The #69385 is related to this.
E.g., the constructs of form A_b and A^b, and wideslash instruction do not
survive the conversion -- former change to rSub and rSup, latter is turned to
garbage.
Also, the MathType to Word conversion routine completely disregards the formula
font size, whether it is set in user settings, or in the installation-wide
main.xcd, or in the formula itself (size ? {}). The routine turns out every
formula in exported word file with base size 12 and indexes of size 8.
Imagine having to click-click every formula in the Word document to change that.

We are using OpenOffice since one year and all more or less was correct but a collegue report me this issue. The compatibility problems happen when we receive or send documents to our partners. I often have minor problems, but occasionally big ones, such as when Open Office cut off several pages we have to use Word for Mac to see these pages. But the main problem is that it shuts down on large documents, if it goes over 30 pages in track changes it often won't save changes without stalling. We were only able to work on it when it got over 30 pages by using MS Word on the old Dell PC, but the compatibility issues arose again because for some reason it wouldn't delete or modify the text boxes that were created in Open Office. Imagine a table containing current values in milliampers. It could be good, if all the values in the table has az E-03 exponent (or mA, but I don't want to talk about the SI notation now), even if there are some values less than 1mA or some values are not less than 1000 (or 2000) mA. It makes the numbers more comparable for the human eyes. 2) Maybe there is a better solution instead of format string. Why we need to think about and learn a complicated, coded way to express the number of digits, thousands separator, and colored negatives, etc? Maybe it was a good and compact solution 20 years ago. Maybe a better UI can exist for setting the parameters of the number (representing the sign, the left and right part of the decimal separator and the exponent). Most likely this UI is not yet invented, and our job it to do it. I'd like to query why it is thought an expression like [=1000]RS ##\,##\,##\,##0;[=10]RS ##\,##\,##0;RS ##,##0 is more user friendly than an UI containing some radio buttons and some fields defining the number of digits. And we can use more than one but only very basic format string instead of a big, complicated one. Maybe I've went too far, and I'm wrong but I feel there are too many functions stuffed into the format string, and it become too complicated (for an average user). But there is one problem. Not sure whether to post it here or as new issue. Writer 3.3 now support multypling pages on sheet in form 1,1,1,1 a printing four of them on one sheet. But you can not manage margins (borders) so my document with only 1 cm (0,4) page margins prints out of printable area when multyplied 4 time on page as A6 leaflet. It does not happen in Adobe Acrobat. You can scale whole document to fit. But anyway step in good direction. And it does not happen when printed normaly as A4. Apple implemented simillar feature in Snow Leopard but it offers option to scale it by percentage. BTW I beged in Apple for such feature I guess from System 8.x :-o.
