Hello,
we are now at version 3.2 of OpenOffice and three years later and this still
does not work. I'm used now to need to save and then find the document again and
then send it from my email program. But every now and then it frustrates me that
this should be basically possible from within OOO.
There is no reason that windows XP and other programs see PMail as system mailer
and OO does not.
If there are any tests I could do I'm willing to help

Cheers

Oliver

Hello,
I'm still having big problems with this replacement of the Calibri font, I'm
getting more and more docx files using this font.
Is there not some kind of work-around?
Can I either
 * download the font somewhere and install it ?
 * or edit some file manually to get a better replacement of this font ?

I would appreciate any ideas. I'm getting cross-eyed with this font problem

cheers

Hello,
it seems that the new MSOffice versions use the Calibri font as the default
font, so I'm getting more and more documents written in this font.
And the rendering of this font in OOO is not very good and very difficult to
read on screen. I have OOO as well as MSOffice 2003 installed on my desktop and
so I opened the same document with both programs and have attached screen shots.
There seems to be a similar problem for calc, see Issue 103103

remark : when the bad rendering happens, then in the font drop down field only
Calibri appears, however with some documents I get Calibri;Century Gothic
and the rendering is much better. It seems that the replacement of Calibri by
Century Gothinc is not happening systematically

I just updated to OO 320m12 and I still get the problem.
Example : I just submitted a .docx file to a different issue :

http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/67644/Test%20Calibri.docx

when I try to open this file directly in OO from the browser (without saving
first), OO now complains that the file is corrupted and needs to be repaired, if
I say Ok, repair, OO crashes, that is there is a small window with a white on
red X and a read error; upon OK OO disappears.
When I save this file onthe desktop and open by doubleclicking, there is no
problem at all

I'm running under Windows XP SP3, I have MSOffice 2003 installed, but the font
Calibri is not installed (when I open MSwindows, i cannot find the font, however
when I open a doc made with Word2007, it is shown, word does not show the name
of the replacement font).
As I said before, sometimes OOO seems to take Century Gothic as replacement font
and then this is shown, and sometimes not (and then there is the rendering
problem).

I have been getting the problem again.
And it seems to me that this is always starting when I try to open a file of
which the extension is associated to OOO (.xls, .ods) from within another
programm (e.g. my email programm Pegasus Mail, or a ling in my mind mapping
programme FreeMind).
OO crashes on opening this file as described above and then will crash on any
other file that I try to open directly (spreadsheet as well as text).
This will happened until I opened writer directly, typed some text and saved. I
then closed OOO and could then open the files that it did not open before.
However this does not happen everytime when I open from within another program.
I have tried to upgrade to OO 3.2 RC5, but the files do not seem to be available
in the moment.
Cheers

Hello,
I cannot give many more steps that already given before :
when I try to open this xls file, e.g. by doubleclicking on it in the file
explorer I get the OpenOffice splassh screen, then very rapidly an empty window
and then a small window that in the title says microsoft Visual C++ and in the
window runtime error
And I'm doing this in 3.1.1, so its possible that with the changes in 3.2 there
is no problem anymore

Ok I run some more tests and now

...
I don't have a problem anymore.
this is typical, since monday I had problems with all kind of EXCEL files, but I
though that there might be some problem elsewhere (e.g. the export of the newest
MSOffice version) and not in Oo as I did not have a problem before. Then
yesterday I finally decide to file a bug, reduce one of the file to a minimum
that's still crashing.
And now today, I have just tried all of the files that gave me the problem
before and they all work now.
No idea what happened, I have not installed anything or changed any setup of my
computer
So I guess this will stay unconfirmed, however I will report back if I get the
problem again

Cheers

Hello,
for some days now I get regularly xls files the crash OO (V3.1.1) on opening
with a C++ runtime error (no more error specification).
I can open them in xls (2003) without problem. I have reduced on example file to
a minimum of one line and it still crashes OO.
I suspect that these are files exported by office 2007 or converted from .xlsx
files. I have added the file here.

I have been trying to use the sun presenter console during presentations.
Potentiall this is a really great tool.
However regulary, when I connect my laptop to a video beamer and then switch
from laptop-only output to extended-desktop output and then start a
presentation, I will get the presenter console on the video beamer and the
presentation on my laptop. This is rather embarrassing during a presnetation. I
know that I can change this by playing around with the way windows defines
screen one and two, however this is complicated. It would be much easier if the
presenter console would provide a keyboard shortcut to switch the two screens

Thanks in advance for considering this enhancement
By the way a cleeage told be that Powerpoint (don't knwo which version, i assume
the most recent one) can do this

Cheers

I have never had the following problem with older version, however I cannot tell
if this problem arrived with 3.0 or 3.1 :
Very often (70%) when I try to drag an object with the mouse I only get a
flash of a black rectangle slightly larger than the object and the normal mouse
pointer comes back with the result that the object cannot be dragged to
adifferent position.
I have added a file with a single slide and two objects that behave this way

Having a keyboard shortcut would probably only help the stressed presenter who
up to this point did not have the problem

this is a continuation from issue 81742, of which was not at all a duplicate of
19340 (which is about text paragraph styles).
the problem was and is still that you cannot assign to a normal textbox a
presentation style (only an image style) and you that you cannot change e.g. a
title text object that has been defined with slide formatting into a different
style.
The problem is the following : you can create a new slide and you can use an
empty slide. On this slide you put a text object and you write some words. now
you decide that this should be the page title and formatted the same way as all
the predefined titles. So you hit F11 to open the style window (this will open
with image styles), you choose title and you reformat (update) your object.
And this gives a completely different formatting as all other titles. And when
you change the title formatting (to change ALL of your titles), this title
created from a text object will not change.
With the text object, you can alctually in the style window choose presentation
styles, choose the title style and hit update, but this will have no effect at
all.
Finally it does not work either the other way round : you create a new slide
that has already a title object on it, you write some text in it, you open the
style window, this will show automatically the correct presentation style. Now
you choose a different style, the update button is active, you hit it, and
nothing happens. You are not able to change a presentationstyle. Actually I have
not yet found some functionality that actually works in this Styles and
formatting window (F11)

Cheers

I don't know if the wordprocessor componentis the right place to report this,
this is where I observe this behaviour, but it could be in any component :

This happens when using the startcenter open file option and opening e.g. a
.doc file from the file selector window :
the window will disappear and no indication is left that OO is actually doing
something : the mouse cursor is a normal arrow ( no hourglass), no indication
anywhere that something is happening. This can be over a minute where I'm
wondering if OO will open the file or not. And this is not even with large files
(e.g. this morning with a 35kb .doc file ). At least the hourglass should be
shown at once, and then as rapidly as possible at least the window frame with a
progress bar. I know that my 1.2GHz Pentium M (1.1 Gb RAM)is not he fastest
processor anymore.. but having to wait for over one minute for a reaction of the
programm to see that anything is happening is very very long

I played a little bit and I think I can pin down the behavior that I see :
when you try to access via the start center a file that is on the network and
there is a network problem, then there can be a long period of time when the
open file window dialog has disappeared and before the actual OOO window is
opened. During this period (while OO or the system is trying the to access the
network) also no hourglass is shown. And as at the same time there is also no
hard disc activity, there is actually no indication that Oo is doing anything.

I think, yes, this issue can be closed as invalid, but there should probably one
about being able to change the presentation style for an object or being able to
attribute to a newly created object a presentation style (with all the
advantages of automatic formats etc)

It would be great if the insertion point of a note in the text could be moved by
dragging the small triangle to a different position in the text.
Often in text that is heavily edited, notes can end up in wrong positions. So,
instead of having to create a new note, copying its content and deleting the old
note, it would be great if the insertion point could just be dragged with the
mouse to the new position

thanks in advance for considering this

On the main web page OOO3.0.1 has been advertised for some days now.
I'm in France and the web page offers at once to download the French version.
And then it does not work, as seemingly the new version does only exist for
English, German, Russian and Polish.
I think this will create a lot of frustrated users.
The home-page should say at once that the newest version is not yet available in
all language packs.

I might have missed this problem reported already but haven't found any issue :
when a document that contains notes (Notes2 in OO3.0) is saved as .doc (XP
format) , then upon reopening this file, the date in all of the notes is Today
(I assume, I'm using the french verison :-) and the time is the time when the
file was opened.
When the same file is saved as odf then there is no problem at all : date and
time reflect the note's creation

This problem, originally filed in spetember 2004, does still exist in the new
OO3.0
When using the normal view with on the left side a pane showing all slides in
one column and when pasting a slide at a defined position from another
presentation, this slide will always be inserted as the last slide. This is a
minor problem for small presnetation, but with presentation 100 slides this
becomes very annoying, especially as in the slide sorter you cannot drag a slide
outside the window. So to get a slide from the last position to the first, you
need to drag on top of the screen, scroll the window to further up, drag again
etc. you do this for 10 pasted slides and you are ready to hit the
screen

kudos to the programmer(s) who had the idea for this feature.

The workaround suggested by jbu does not seem to work :
I just installed OO3.0. I checked before installation : I do not have
python23.dll in the windows system directory
Then after installation I moved phython23.dll from basis/program to program/
I was able to run the uno connection wizard supplied by Bibus, checking the
connection using this wizard said that the uno connection is open using a pipe.
However when running bibus, there was no automaic detection of OO presence (no
menu itme); I could get the menu item by manually changing the preferences.
however when trying to insert a reference I get the same 'bibOOo_NoConnect'
error as everybody else.
So I guess something else is going on

This bug is similar to 61075 but was not resolved when 61075 was resolved in
002.4 :

Bibus is a free, open bibliographic database program
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/bibus-biblio/) that can interact both with MS
Word and OO. The interaction with both programmes works slightly differently.
The problem is that when references and bibliographies are inserted into a .doc
document using Word and Bibus and then this .doc file is opened using OO2.4, the
fields have disappeared, they are not even imported as simple text. This is a
regression as at least the simple text-importation has worked in older versions
of OO (see 61075 for this).
I have attached a .doc file that has been created with Word 2003 and Bibus. When
opened using OO2.4, one can see that neither the inserted citations nor the
bibliography is shown (i have also tried this with word 2000 with the same
result). The result (not showing the fields even as text) is the same if OO is
run on a computer where MSWord is installed or if OO runs on a computer where
MSWord has never been installed. I mention this as somebody else had commented
for bug 61075 that this was the case.

Thanks in advance for having a look at this. Bibus is a really good
bibliographic software and more and more widely used, but one of the few
handicaps it has is that one cannot switch between Word and OO without loosing
the bibliographic information. It would be a good sign if one of the biggest
open software projects existing makes an effort to help other, smaller open
software projects that have less resources.

Sorry to tell you this, but the problem is not fixed : when I create a .doc
document and inserting fields, for example with the free bibliographic programm
Bibus, then these fields are not imported when the file is opened in OO2.4,
also not as simple text. They simply disappear (each citation and the whole
bibliography). i have tried this with .doc documents created with Word2000 and
Word2003, same result. I don't know what the difference is between EndNote and
Bibus fields, but it is not working for Bibus. If the fields would shown at
least as text, I would consider this issue as closed.
I have attached a test file created using Word 2003 and Bibus 2.4

Cheers

The fix does not seem to work for Bibus fields : I just tried the new 2.4
release : I opened a test document created using WORD 2000 and Bibus. There were
two fields in the text from Bibus for citing a reference and then the field for
the Bibliography. Opening this file in OO writer 2.4 has the fields disappearing
(as in OO 2.3). I have atached the file

I jsut got an official document in xls format where some fo the calculations did
not seem to work. I finally could narrow it down to a division of a cell in time
format (H:MM). this seems to give the value 0 in OO, however this works in MS
EXCEL (see attached file : on sheet janv, in cell L36 the time value given in
cell G27 is taken and divided by 2 (for info : G27 represents daily working
hours and in L36 half days are needed.
Importing directly the xls file does thus result in a non-functionning of this
spreadsheet

Ok, thanks for the hint, but that's not really the problem : the problem is that
this works under EXCEL, and the result is that I get regularly official
spreadsheets with this problem, and not only once in each sheet, but x times.
If I will have to edit manually all of these cells, and then assure that this
will also still work in EXCEL before I send the filled in sheets back, It will
be not very practical to use OO calc.
Is there not a possibility to let Oo check the format of the cell when there is
an IF statement involved and if the format is explicitely set to a number
format, then not convert to a text format ?
Well, I guess this will cause problems elsewhere and I will just add this to my
long list of problems I have when using calc for xls files which I know will
probably never be solved
thanks again for your answer

This problem concerns the little navigator that pops up by clicking the button
between the page-up- and page-down-buttons under the scroll bar.
The up and down button behavior depend on which other button was activated
last.
Every time you click on a object-category button (page, OLE, reminder etc), to
change the behavior of the up and down arrows, the window will close.
Which means that you need regularly to open the window twice to perform one
action (eg next reminder), once for changing the behavior of the arrow buttons
and once to use them. It would perhaps be more comfortable if the window would
only close on clicking on the arrow buttons (or the closing X button) and not
with all of the buttons shown.

I just got this word document with graphics in it which are not shown correctly
in OO writer. The axis labels of the graphics in this file are mangled to an
extend that makes them unreadable.
I have enquired from the writer of this document that the pictures were pasted
into Word 2000 from a statistical package using copy paste as metafile.
I have attached a word document only containing this picture.
It might be that issues 20024 and 28604 are related but as they relate to rather
old OO versions I submit this as a new issue

If this Issue is closed, Impress becomes completely useless :

- export to Powerpoint 2000 (the version still mainly used in conference
centers) is completely broken : no animations are exported (see Issue 82176)
--- Impress cannot be used to prepare working presentations for Powerpoint

- all animations specific to Impress cannot be used for Powerpoint 2003 exports

- most conference centers will not allow the installation of software on their
computers

- in flash export animations don't work (without animation I can go back to
overhead slides and not have any compatibility issues ...)

so what can you use Impress for : presentations at home on computers where you
can decide which software to install ??

I really like to work with Impress, its set of features and the way you can work
with it are largely superior to Powerpoint, however without seflexecuting
presentations all the effort that went into this great piece of software is lost

If the OpenOffice community (or Sun ) wants that Impress becomes in any way a
concurrent to Powerpoint, then self-executing presentations are the only way to
get people to see what you can do with Impress...

AS for myself, as long as this Issue remains closed, I will go back to
Powerpoint, as I have lost so much time in adjusting Impress produced
presentations to Conference computers with only Powerpoint installed, and so
many embarrassing moments when animations did not work properly (that's really
bad presse: what happend there Oh I used OpenOffice Impress )

Sorry

I would like to add that this bug also affects BIBUS, one of the very few
bibliographic programmes that work properly with OpenOffice. The programmer has
made a big effort so that his program will work with both , Word and OpenOffice.
And now the use of this very usefull and free program is severely handicapped by
this bug in OpenOffice. I have a number of students using Bibus for their
bibliographies, and using Word (on institute computers) and OpenOfice (on
personal computers) and basically related to this bug, they cannot import the
word files with bibliographic fields into OO. I'm trying to use mainly
OpenOffice and promote it within the scientific community, but not being able to
see neither EndNote nor Bibus field is a severe handicap. Even I, a longterm
user and defender of OpenOffice in a still rather MSWord.using environment will
have to switch back to Word now. There is nothing I can do, I'll have to abandon
OpenOffice because I cannot see the bibliographic fields.
What bothers me especially with this bug is that a programmer of a very usefull
free programm, hasmade the effort to make it work with OpenOffice, and
OpenOffice leaves a bug, that is a regression (as this has worked before)
seemingly without comment and concern. When programmers of free programmes do
not stick together, where do we go ?

Greying out the bucket depending on styles is not the problem, it is working :
when I click on presentation styles and nothing is selected (or a graphics style
is selected) then the bucket is greyed out, when I select a presentation style
(such as a title) then the bucket becomes active. So no problem here, this is
working.
What is not working is the use of the bucket with a presentation style :
when you have selected a presentation object (such as a title), then the styles
and formatting window will highlight the style (here Title) and the bucket
becomes active. Theoretically you should now be able to click on the bucket and
select a different presentation style, then move the mouse over your selected
presentation object (mouse pointer should have changed to the bucket symbol,
this is not happening), click on the object and thereby change its presentation
style. This is not working. It is working (more or less) with graphics styles,
but NOT with presentation styles. There is no way in the moment to change the
style of a presentation object from one defined style (such as Title) to a
different one (such as subtitle or Outline 1) etc ...

To know in Impress the exact color in which a text is written, one needs to go
to the menu formant/character/font effects
It would be very elegant if the actual color could be highlighted in the
font-color drop down menu ( the one, showing the color palette and the names of
the color as tool tips)

Thanks

I'm quite amazed that this bug, a regression as it worked in older versions, has
been known for one-and-a-half years and has not received any attention of the
programmers. I'm not complaining about it not being fixed, this is a problem of
priorities, but there also has not been any discussion on this being an issue to
repair (has worked before), how to perhaps fix this, etc.
and this is not only a problem with EndNote, also Bibus fields seem to disappear
(when created under OO, exported to Word, reimported). So I guess this might be
a problem with all Reference software using fields.
Thus this is not only concerning a few EndNote users, but anybody who wants to
write a text that includes literature references.

But the export in OO 2.3 is called Microsoft Powerpoint 97/2000/XP and not
Microsoft Powerpoint 2003, so this should also work with Powerpoint 2000,
which is, at least as far as I have seen so fat, still the major version used.
Perhaps somebody else can verify this on his Powerpoint 2000 ?
Thanks

I have found 125 isses for impress export but not htis one : all object
animations disappear when exporting( see attached file)
Using OO 2.3 and exporting to ppt 2000 (and using Powerpoint 2000 to open it,
different version with service packs or not).
When the ppt file is reopened with OO Impress, all animations are OK, when it is
opened with Powerpoint, they disappear. Even checking the different objects
separately, they have no animation.
This renders Impress useless for me, as there is no standalone viewer and 100%
of all presenations I have to give (seminars, lectures, workshops etc) are using
Powerpoint to run the files.

This concerns the F11 Styles and formatting window :
Changing the style of a graphics object works without problems : chose a style
(Graphics Styles list shown), click on the bucket (Fill format mode), when
you move the mouse back on your slide it changes into a bucket, then you can
click on an object and it will change to the new style.
This does not work with the presentation style :
When you choose a presentation style, then click on the bucket button and then
move the mouse back on the slide, the mousepointer does NOT change to the
bucket and clicking on a presentation object (Title, Outline etc) does not
change anything.
I have tried every type of sequence of clicks and double clicks I can think of
and was not able to change the presentation style of a presentation object (e.g.
Title into subtitle, Outline 1 into Outline 2 etc)
Do I miss something or is this broken ?
I haven't found any other issue on this, so I'm a bit astonished and rather
doubt my ability to do the right thing.

Cheers

Oliver

I just stumbled over the following problem when creating a presentation with
Impress and I haven't found any other issue on this I thought I submit this
here :

Objects in Impress seem to be organized in two different groups : graphics
styles and presentation objects (with the corresponding styles). In brief : As
far as I can see (using help and trial and error) there is no way to convert a
graphics style into an presentation style.
Why would I want to do that ?
It seems to me that presentation objects can only be created by selection a
Layout and then using them.
However when I want to begin with an empty slide and then add some text objects,
there seems to be no way (at least not one I easily found or was described in
the help) to say later on This text box is a Title or this text box is an
Outline, using presentation styles.
This concerns mainly the text box.
What's the difference between a text box created using Layouts and containing
an outline, and a text box inserted using the text button, containing an
outline, to require two different types of styles. If I then change the style of
the presentation style outline, the other one will not be changed.
This is very confusing for the user, especially for titles and outlines

Thanks to have listened (read :-)

Oliver

Ihave OO 2.2.1 installed and use Pegasus mail (www.pmail.com) as my mailing
programm. When I try to send a document as email I get the error message OO was
unable to find a working e-mail configuration ...
However I cannot find any options for an email configuration.
In older OO versions there was Tools-Options-OpenOffice.org-External Programs
but this does not exist anymore and no replacement option seems to have been
added.
I have tried to configure the Mail merge email option in the options window,
where I can directly configure my smtp server : this does work just fine, at
least with the Test settings button, however it did not resolve the problem
with send documents.
Pmail is registered as the main mailing programm on my computer and works with
other programms (e.g. I can send a file from the filemanager as email)
How can I configure my mailing programm within OO ?

When producing a bulleted list one can use in the window Bullets and Numbering
the tab Customize to change the bullets to Graphics and the Select from
the Gallery.
Such a list can be created and saved under ppt format and does open correctly in
Powerpoint.
However when editing such a list, actions such as changing the police of a word,
or the character format such as bold or italics and the saving again under ppt,
when reopening the graphics bullets will have disappeared and are replaced with
normal bullets.
I have added a file that show the end-result.

Actually the problem is the reopening, as the saved ppt file opened under
Powerpoint does show correctly the graphics bullets.
Only reopening under OO Presentation will change the graphics bullets into
normal ones

When saving under odp there is no problem

I just received a xls file containing a column plot (I have attached the file)
and there are several formatting problems, some of which are making the graph
useless :
- in the original the colours for the three columns were black, grey and white
with small points; in OO the last is also converted to black.
- the column titles in the original were NEE, GPP, TER, in the OO import
they are Column n, Column U, Column Z, respectively; if I would not have
had the original, I would not have been able to reproduce which column was which
- the y axis in the original goes from-2000 to +1500 in steps of 500 units, in
OO the y axis goes from -1750 to +1500 in steps of 250 units
I have also attached a screen copy of the xls version and the OO version

Actually I do not have the original data.
On the otherhand I think this is a situation OO should be able to cope with : it
is quite usual that somebody copies a graph from one xls file to another without
copying the data. Actually the data are not the problem at all as datawise the
graph Chart produces is entirely correct. This is mostly a formating problem
(wrong filling, wrong legend position, wrong axis numbers), withthe exception of
the column headings, which would (could ?) be written in the original data.
However they also might have been changed, so they also should be independent of
the original data.

I think one could go even further : if OpenOffice could integrate (or serve as a
graphical frontend and data supplier) with an opensource statistical packeg such
as R, many scientists would rapidly choose OO over MS Office

Update : even with OO 2.2.0 this problem is still persisting.
And from the tests done this really seems to be a problem of the OO RTF export
module.
And this can be really annoying when you need to use many subscripts and
superscripts, as in science writing. Basically this bug causes the RTF export
from OO to be unuseable.
And this has been reported more than one and a half years ago ...
I (and probably others as I'm not the original reporter) would really appreciate
if you could have a look at this problem
Thanks very much in advance

Do we really have to wait until OO3.0 before this issue is solved. Looking at
all the duplicates there are many people reporting this problem.
I have OO installed on a windows XP system on which MS Office never has been
installed. I can insert in the text any greek characters I want using the
available Symbol font. Why can this font not be used to insert the greek
letters into the equations ?

Displaying the equation should not be a problem : it could just be inserted as a
subtitle. And as the subtitle is just a textbox, it can be moved around, the
font can be changed etc.
By the way, even more professional statistic programs use the subtitle to insert
the regression equation, significance levels and R2.

Also coming from the scientific community I have to say that I agree with all
of the users comments on this issue. It is unacceptable to be able to calculate
a regression (even logarithmic etc) and not even show the equation that goes
with it. As the equation has been calculated to estimate the fit, the data is
availabe, so it's just a case of adding a button Show regression equation and
then add a text field with the equation. This is probably a lot less difficult
than redesigning the whole thing and adding bells and whistles of exotic
options. When I talk to colleagues about using OO, they just laugh and say
have you had a look at the graphics capabilities. We'll have a look in another
10 years

I just got an official document (.doc WROD format) from my company with consists
of series of tables. And when I open this document in OO (versions 2.0.3 and
2.0.4) then one of the table is in the wrongposition, overlaps completely with
another table and makes the document unreadable.
I have reduced the document to the minimum of the two tables. If you oepn this
document in WORD, you will have the table TRANSPORT on top and the table HOTEL
beneath. In OO they are on top of each other

I don't seem th be able to figure out what is going on

I have encountered the same problem and this is really awkward as many
scientists use EndNote to manage their references and include them in their
manuscripts. As long as I cannot see these fields I cannot use OO to work on
these documents. I have used OO for quite a while now but this problem forces me
to go 100% back to Word. I would appreciate very much if anything could be done
about this problem.
Thanks a lot in advance
PS If needed I have example files. I won't attach them for now as there are
already files attached.

By the way, I think this is a problem that must have been caused by changes in
one of the recent versions. I cannot check or prove this, but I have just
checked some older manuscripts from autumn 2005 and January/February 2006 and
these documents also contain EndNote fields and I have no recollection about
having had any problems with this. So either this is a problem in the newer OO
versions or EndNote has changed their field format and this caused the problem.
If somebody wants to check this, I could produce example files from these older
manuscripts

Sorry for bothering you, its true , with the newest downloadable versin (680m5)
this problem has disappeared. The version before was 680m1.
I was conscient that I did not have the latest version, but as I had not found a
bug discribing this problem I thought that this would probably not have changed
with a newer version.
I'll try to keep better up to date

I just downloaded version 2.0.2 680m5 built 9011 and I found that when I saved a
document as RTF that is containing a formua (created using OO) , then at
reopening in OO (or WordPad), the documenta only contains an empty frame and the
formula has disappeared.
I have tried this several times and its always the same :
- open a new document
- inwert/formula
- created a formula in the formual edit field
- close the formula editor
- save the file as RTF
- close the file
- reopen the file : - formula has disappeared, only an empty frame rests

I have looked in the options / save if there is any option that I should have
chosen for RTF save and that I missed but I haven't found anlything
Any help for this ?

Thanks

I just want to add that this problem is still persisting; superscript should be
raised by 33% (automatic) and the relative font size is 58%; when exporting to
RTF and then re-opening the superscript is raised by 41% (strange wherethis
number comes from) and relative font size is 100%.
The same is true for subscript.
And this seems to be an export problem as a) if the exported RTF file is opened
with another programm (e.g. WordPad) the problem is already visible and b) if a
RTF file including some superscript characters is created with a different
programm and then opened with OO, the superscripts are correct.
This problem can be rather annoying if you have long texts with a lot of sub and
superscripts, as for example in scientific writing. Correcting all the super and
subscripts in files that have been exported to RTF can take a long long time.

when creating a file in OO using heading styles, that is simply higliting a
heading and chosing a heading level from the drop down list, then this file
exported to .doc format and opened in WORD will give bullets in front of the
headings
Perhaps this is also connected to issue 61776 ??

[sw-issues] [Issue 6032] Right click menu in revise mode

I agree with the reporter of this issue. If one is working on a document that
had many changes done, it is very difficult with the way this is handled in OO
to find one specific change and accept it without having to work through all the
other changes. In MSWord, when right clicking on a changed text (modified by
another author and now in colour and underlined), then there are four additional
menupoints :
 * accept change : this accepts the change under the right-click position
 * refuse change : this refuses the change
 * record changes : switches recording of changes on or off
 * accept or reject changes ... : opens the window for changes

For really missing in OO are the first two points, which permit to rapidly
accept and reject certain changes, even in the middle of a 100 pages document
which has been worked over intensively. Working on documents is often not
linearly.
Another resolution to this problem could also be that the window that is opened
by the menu point Edit/changes/Acceptor Reject should show/highlight the
change on which the cursor is positionned.
Thanks in advance for considering these enhancements

Inserted notes do not show the author who has inserted it, neither directly in
the text, nor in the window that opens when hovering over the note. One needs to
double click on the note and open the edit field to see the author.
This can pose a problem when several different authors have worked on a document
: the changes are nicely coded by colour, so one can see rapidly who has changed
what, however the notes have to be opened one by one.
It would therefore be nice if either the notes have the same colour as the
recorded changes for this author (an option that automatically switches from the
yellow rectangles to coloured ones when changes have been recorded for more than
one author), or that the author is shown in the yellow rectangle or that at
least the hover-over windows shows the author.
Thanks very much for considering this enhancement

Does anybody know of a way to import into OO MSWORD .doc files of versions older
than 95 ? e.g. I have a colleague who has still files from version 2.0 of WORD.
Word was still able to open these files, however now he has a new computer with
only OO installed same question for EXCEL, but I don't hink that I will
submit a second bug there, should I ?
Perhaps somebody has already programmed a macro ?

Thanks for any hints

I just want to add that I absolutely support the point of view that tktim has
made in his comment from 01/01/06. Wordwrapping in the Note Edit window would
make working with notes a whole lote easier, especially also as there is this
problem with the paragraph breaks and the WORD export (issue 45651)

Some more comments from the practical side :
- Export to pdf : Adobe Reader has a nice full screen mode, however animations
won't work , and therefore I can't see how the pdf format can be used for
academic presentations; it's the animations that make OOPresentation or
Powerpoint powerful compared to other grafik progammes, that could theoretically
also be used to create presentations.
 - Export to shockwave flash : similarly in the moment animations don't work,
however with shockwave this problem might be overcome. On the other hand, at
least when using Internet Browsers to do the viewing, there is no complete full
screen mode. I have tested Mozilla and IE and both still show a naviagion bar in
the full screen mode. For official conferences this is rather disturbing. Would
it be possible to have OO create afile that includes the presentation as well as
a shockwave player?
The problem is that OOo has some very nice options that are not available in
Powerpoint (at least the versions I know of). If you would like to use these
options, you need to use OO, especially as export to swf or pdf are even more
limiting as the export to ppt. It's frustrating to have the nice options and not
to be able to use them .

Good to know that $ is working ofr paragraph marks, which is not at all
evident from the help file :
Only finds the search term if the term appears at the end of a paragraph.
Special objects such as empty fields or character-anchored frames at the end of
a paragraph are ignored. Example: Peter$.

However this does only seem to work if not combined with other regular
expressions.
I have tried your example, but added to some lines a TAB before the paragraph
mark.
Then I tried to find \t$ and replace it with \t : this does not take out the
paragraph marks from the lines with a TAB.

Hello,

I have been discussing this problem already in two other issues, which have now
been marked duplicates.
So here I go again : I can only stress, as this has already been done in another
post, that for the scientific community this problem is of major importance :
when I suggest to a colleague using OOo, one of the first questions will be :
are the equations compatible ?
It is also not an option to install the starsymbol font , as the whole point in
saving as word document is, that I can send this document to a person who does
not have installed OO, and does not know anything about StarOffice.
Actually the whole effort that has been made by OO programmers to make writing
equations in OO compatible with (or exportable to ) Microsoft equation is
rendered useless if the greek letter problem is not resolved.
I also find it still difficult to conceive how on the one hand greek letters in
the equations are dependent on one not available font and ont he other hand
inserting greek letters into the text using Insert/SpecialCharacter is no
problem at all and exports correctly to Word.
Could not be one option, that when exporting to .doc format, that the special
characters from the starsymbol font are replaced by the correct codes for th
symbol font, available on all systems that will open .doc with word ?
Thanks for listening to my rambling
Oliver

It seems that having too many dictionaries installed will slow performance,
expecially at startup. I'm working regularly in three different languages, thus
I have to have at least these installed.
Now, OOo comes out of the box with already several dictionaries installed, such
as English, Italian, Swahili (Kenya), Swahili (Tanzania), Thai.
I would like to de-install or delete some of these languages to not overload my
system, however I haven't found a simple way to do this. I have read all of the
help concerning languages and dictionaries, to no avail.
The only way I can see, is to manually find the files in shared/dict/ooo and
deleting them. And probably also updating the file dictionary.lst ?? Will OO
crash if I only delete the dictionaries and do not change dictionary.lst ? Or is
actually changing this file enough and I don not need to delete the dictionaries
(in case I would want the one day) ?

Thanks for any hints

Oliver

The greek letter problem was also discussed in Issue 24331 , there I filed a

the .doc format : one can see easily which ones are working : only capital greek
letters are working which are similar to latin caracters, these are :
A B X E H I K M N O P T Z

I will attache the file greekletters.doc als with this issue
