I have installed it and everything seemed fine until I updated one of my extensions (it’s a spell check extension for Belarusian produced by me). I updated the extension both for OOo 3.2.1 and 3.3 b1, with 3.2.1 everything was fine, but 3.3 b1 after closing refused to start again issuing the error message as follows: == The application cannot be started. A general error occurred while accessing your central configuration. == I deleted all user data for 3.3 b1 and copied them from 3.2.1. Then 3.3 started without problem. I gave another try and updated the extension once more. Again, updating resulted in inability to restart OOo and the above error message. And deleting user setting and copying them from 3.2.1 again restored operability. I tried another extension: TemplateChanger [1], updating from version 1.2.3 to 1.2.5. The issue appeared also with it (and with OOo 3.2.1 it was allright). I transferred my user settings from OOo 3.1, including autocorrect lists that are currently in my c:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\OOo-dev\3\user\autocorr\ directory, as they should be. When I want to add an entry to the list, I proceed as follows (worked with previous versions): 1. Select a text that I want to make a replacement option. 2. Enter Format → Autocorrect → Autocorrect Options. 3. In the Replace tab of the dialog, I see my text in the With: field, choose the language from the drop-down list (for example, Russian), type in a shortcut into the Replace field, tick Text only, click on New. 4. I see the entry added to the list. 5. I close the dialog and continue editing. The new autocorrect shortcut and the previous ones work fine with the current document. 6. But after I close the document, all entries are lost and the respective file (say, acor_ru-RU.dat) becomes zero-size. Any other autocorrect lists available remain, unless I try to modify them. 7. Whenever I restore a .dat file from my OOo 3.1 profile or try to create a new list from scratch, it all happens again: any previous and/or newly added entries are retained for the current editing session only and are erased after closing the document. I have admin permissions on the computer, so there is no problem with read/write access to the files. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 104977] Plain-text file in UTF-16 LE resaved as cp-1251 after edit
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104977 User esperantisto changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|INVALID | --- Additional comments from esperanti...@openoffice.org Tue Sep 15 05:48:58 + 2009 --- I insist on reopening this issue. For over 15 years I have performed various tasks on text editing using various text editors and word processors. All of them (including jEdit, UniRed, Kate, gEdit, even Windows Notepad, and particularly Microsoft Office Word), if correctly opened a UTF-16 file, will save it exactly as UTF-16. Or they will open it as garbage, clearly indicating necessity to re-open changing the encoding. Writer is the ONLY application I have ever seen that opens a UTF-16 file correctly, visualizing all symbols etc., but when saving does an arbitrary change of the encoding without user’s knowledge and/or confirmation. Moreover, Writer prompts to ‘Keep current format’. But what is ‘current format’ in case of a plain-text file? It’s its encoding, or what? Even for quite an experienced user, such a behavior can result in loss of data. Maybe, it’s not exactly a bug, but then it may be a design flaw. So, the suggestion is: if Writer detects UTF-16 by BOM (and I guess, it does so even if the text encoded filter it not chosen), it must retain UTF-16 when saving. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The file opens absolutely correctly. However, after I edit and save it, the edited file turns into cp-1251 (the system default encoding), and all characters that do not fit into cp-1251 are replaced with question marks. I create a new document. The language of the Default style is Russian. I type in some text. I have to switch my keyboard layout to English twice: first, to typ in an abbreviation in Latin letters (FOB) and next to type in a dollar sign ($) with an amount in figures. In the both cases, OOo automatically switches the text language to English(USA). Then I select the entire paragraph and press Shift+Ctrl+Space to reset the text attributes to the Default style. I expect the language of the entire paragraph to fall back to Russian (because Russian is the language for the Default style), but it does not. The same is when I select Clear formatting in the drop-down list of styles on the toolbar. At the same time, if I apply any other ad hoc formatting, it does reset. By the way, there is no such a problem with OOo 2.x. The language resets to the language defined in a respective paragraph style with Shift+Ctrl+Space. Previously, I used to assign OOo as the default application for MS Excel spreadsheets during installation. This gave me an option of creating new spreadsheets in Calc on the basis of existing XLS files by right-click - New menu item. After I've installed BEA_300_m2, I've discovered that right-click - New is reverted to using MS Excel. I've tried to re-assign OOo as the default for Excel spreadsheets by re-running the installer in the modify mode but did not succeed. However, after I've re-run the installer of 2.4 in the modify mode, I was able to restore Calc as default for XLS (and right-click - New with Calc), but only Calc 2.4, not 3.0. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 61271] New - Incorrect printing o f big font
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61271 Issue #:|61271 Summary:|Incorrect printing of big font Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0.1 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P5 Subcomponent:|printing Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|esperantisto --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Jan 28 07:24:15 -0800 2006 --- I've created a file with just the number “220” that I wanted to print in big size (380 pt, Arial Black font). When I printed from Writer, it resulted in incorrect output: the characters are not of the specified size (much smaller), and the spacing between them is way too large. However, when I saved the file to Microsoft Word format, opened it and printed from Word, it was all right. This problem was both with printing to paper and to a PDF file via a virtual printer (provided by pdfcreater program). It's remarkable, that when I used Writer's feature of direct exporting to PDF, the result file (unlikely to the one produced with pdfcreator) was OK. So, I'll attach 5 files to illustrate the problem: - 220_Arial_Black.odt the Writer file - 220_Arial_Black.doc, the Word file (produced by Writer, not modified by Word) - 220_Arial_Black_from_Writer.pdf, the result of printing from Writer (incorrect size and spacing — looks same as printing to paper) - 220_Arial_Black_from_Word.pdf, the result of printing from Word - 220_Arial_Black_saved_from_Writer.pdf, a PDF file created by exporting from Writer - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Now, I've installed OOo 2.0.x m139. The installer suggested to transfer and use the settings from 1.1.4. I find it quite stupid and annoying considering that 2.0 already is there. So, the suggestion is that the installer of 2.0.x-dev check first for the settings from 2.0 (and, possibly, silently use them) and only if not found, for 1.1.4. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 10406] Spell-Check Languages nee d to be more convenient to change.
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=10406 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Nov 16 01:16:18 -0800 2005 --- I'd suggest the following option: to introduce a clickable area with names of languages in the status bar (like MS Word has) and, if possible, list there only languages with spellcheck modules installed. This area should display the current language and allow to switch it on, say, right-click or double-click. I attach a small screenshot of what I'd like to see. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 57979] Smarter user settings tra nsfer in OOo 2.0.x dev
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=57979 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Nov 16 02:15:18 -0800 2005 --- For this user a migration of user settings from OOo 2.0 to 2.0 doesn't make sense Right, but for a user that does already have 2.0, migration from 1.1.4 or 1.1.5 or any before-2.0 makes even less sense — that's what I want to say. Consider, that in future we are going to upgrade to 2.0.1. In such a case, using 2.0 settings is a more reasonable solution than reverting to 1.1.4. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The user settings, however, will still be there. I bet, a typical OOo user won't guess that and won't guess how to remove! Then I install 2.0, use it for some time and then want to upgrade to 2.0.1. So, the installer will still suggest me to import 1.1.4 settings, what makes no sense. I believe, it's quite feasible for the installer to check, if there are already setting for the version to be installed. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm not enthusiastic about that feature of MS Word: it's quite buggy and creates more problem that it solves. [framework-issues] [Issue 57501] NO limit to filename exte nsions for text encoded

I perfectly understand your point. But Microsoft Word DOES allow me to choose ANY file extension for text encoded and this is convenient. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=57501 Issue #:|57501 Summary:|NO limit to filename extensions for text encoded Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Platform:|PC URL:| OS/Version:|Windows XP Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|open-import Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|esperantisto --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Nov 8 01:30:33 -0800 2005 --- When I want choose the Text encoded file type in the file open dialog of Writer, I can see only files with the .txt name extension. This is very inconvenient as text files may come with virtually any extension (for example, I often I need to process .dsl files that are dictionary sources for the program Lingvo in UTF-16LE). My suggestion is that files with all extensions appear in the file open dialog when Text encoded selected. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [graphics-issues] [Issue 41288] Non-ASCII text gets broke n in charts exported to MS .DOC
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41288 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Aug 22 01:00:00 -0700 2005 --- I've tested the attachment with OOo 1.9 m122 and Microsoft Word 2003. I can only partly confirm the issue. When I opened the original file in MS Word the characters really looked bad, and in OOo it was fine. However, I saved the file in OpenDocument (.ott), closed, opened again and re-saved as MS Word. The latter opened OK both in MS Word and in OOo. So, the problem may be in the user's preferences concerning MS Office compatibility (In Tools - Options - Load/Save - Microsoft Office, I have all the boxes ticked). However, there's really no ability to edit the charts in MS Word. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The suggestion is to export the source as UTF-8.
