After updating from v2.2 to v3.2 we began to experience the same corrupted PDFs. Restarting the headless Open Office service solves the issue (until it hits the limit again.) We have since reverted back to v2.2. (Unlike msmith68, our service connects to Open Office using TCP/IP port.) This issue has been reported for quite a long time and msmith68 seems to have attached code that demonstrates this issue.
