Actually, Few font can cover all the characters of CJK which are so many that uses the most part of Unicode encoding space. :) As known well, there is not a accurate map from language to the block of Unicode encoding space. So the map I composed is just to meet the requirement of font fallback in OOo in accordance of the config file vcl.xcu. I have made a little change. So font fallback would not be heavily depend on to display Latin character. But it's not so fortunate for other script because most fonts are available only for a single script except Latin. So font fallback is really significant for other script. It's not a good idea to expect users always select the right font to display the text. Anyway, it should calculate the text height depending on the actually used font. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The glyph is not allowed to extend outside the size of the line in order to avoid conflict between two lines. For the individual problem I showed in the attachment, the root cause is that fallback font is used to display the glyphs while original selected font is used to calculate the height of the clipping area. That could be proved by debugging. And it's also confirmed by a simple experiment. When selecting a right font for the Devanagari character, the chracters can be represented correctly. But when another font is selected, the problem occured. My proposal solution is to re-implement the calculation of height of line in consideration of fallback font. I think the best way is to calculate the width and height of line at the same time after calling OutputDevice::ImplLayout(...). That means merging OutputDevice::GetTextHeight with OutputDevice::GetTextWidth. The current implementation ofOutputDevice::GetTextHeight is really too naive. :) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please see the screenshot included in the attachment, the bottom part of a glyph is gone. It is caused by a fatal mistake during calculating text height which always be got by the matrix data of the font selected in advance. If the selected font can display the characters correctly, every thing is OK. When the selected font is unable to contain all the characters, a fallback font would be used to display the characters, but unfortunately, the text height is still calculated by the original selected font. It's very hard to fix the problem because of the process of text formatting in sw module. Please refer to the implementation of the function OutputDevice::GetTextHeight(). What's important is that sw doesn't know the fallback font when calculating text height. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Pseudo-code below gives a great simple description: input: missing string output: font face //First level fall back, be fast and cover most cases determine the language of missing string get UI default font face df with language type of missing string if df contains the characters of missing string return df; //second level fall back, slow but only a few cases need for each fontface in ImplDevFontList { if fontface contains the missing string return fontface; else next; } The advantages of the above algorithm is, 1. 1st level fall back is quick, and a approriciate font can be got for the missing characters in most circumstances. 2. Though 2nd level fall back seems awkward and stupid, but useful in a very few circumenstances. These patterns could be used as parameters by icu to output formatted text in accordance with given locale. And I think this solution would not lost more fine grained format or pattern control of OOo. Now our work begins with replacing date/time formatting with icu.:) I will creat a CWS as soon as possible. Thanks. Some of the features related to locales, such as character collation and text boundary analysis are implemented by means of ICU (International Components for Unicode) but others are not, including lacale data formatting and class of string. ICU is a mature and widely portable set of C/C++ and Java libraries providing consistent Unicode and Globalization support for software applications on all platforms. In order to provide a language experience with same result for our users acrossing different platform, it would make sense of improving usability to re-implement locale data formatting and class of string with APIs of ICU. And it will be never nessarary of maintaining the language, contry, and cultural specific data which is defined in XML format so far. Meanwhile, OpenOffice.org will potentially support new features and new languages with the upgrade of ICU. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=101552 --- Additional comments from yanmin...@openoffice.org Tue May 19 01:41:17 + 2009 --- I have tried to implement a class WinGlyphFallbackSubstitution inheriting from ImplGlyphFallbackFontSubstitution in vcl/win/source/gdi/salgdi3.cxx as the class FcGlyphFallbackSubstitution using fontconfig on linux platform. And the Windows API EnumFontFamiliesExW was used to enumerate fonts in Windows system. But the work was blocked because I failed to find a win API to determine if the missing characters contained by a specified font on. So I'm not sure if this feature could be add on? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=101552 Issue #|101552 Summary|enable dynamic glyph fallback under Windows system Component|gsl Version|OOo 3.0 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows XP Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|ENHANCEMENT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|pl Reported by|yanminjia --- Additional comments from yanmin...@openoffice.org Tue May 5 06:31:58 + 2009 --- Under windows system, OOo only uses a static font list (pls refer to function ImplDevFontList::InitGenericFallback in vcl/source/gdi/outdev3.cxx) for glyph fallback. Evidently, it's impossible that the static font list contains all the fonts included in all the user's windows system. So in some circumstances, the missing characters cann't match a right font even the system has that font. For example, non-bmp Chinese characters can not present in a dialog box even there is a font in the system that contains those characters. Suggestion: improve the glyph fallback mechanism and support dynamic glyph fallback, as done in linux leveraging fontconfig, develop a class WinGlyphFallbackSubstitution inherited ImplGlyphFallbackFontSubstitution. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [gsl-issues] [Issue 99246] Bidi text in dialog editab le box presents in incrrect order
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=99246 --- Additional comments from yanmin...@openoffice.org Fri Feb 20 09:32:20 + 2009 --- Making clear the what's cause of the defect would be very helpful to fix it. As mensioned in one my previous comment, the difference between Windows and Linux is, On windows, the bidi text is seperated into runs each of which contains only single language characters before being reordered by uniscribe bidi algorithm. That why no problem is on windows. On Linux, the whole multilingual bidi text is delivered to icu with the parameter UBIDI_DEFAULT_LTR, so the initial direction or paragraph is determined by the first character with bidi-strong character. Unfortunately, the editfield in English UI should use LTR as paragraph direction to layout text. So the paragraph direction of bidi text in editfield should depend on the attribution mnTextLayoutMode in class OutputDevice. But the LayoutMode TEXT_LAYOUT_BIDI_LTR seems be ignored or mixed with TEXT_LAYOUT_DEFAULT because they have same binary value. What's more, there is no value of mnFlags in class ImplLayoutArgs responding to LayoutMode TEXT_LAYOUT_BIDI_LTR. Solution: make difference between LayoutModes TEXT_LAYOUT_BIDI_LTR and TEXT_LAYOUT_DEFAULT defined in vcl/inc/outdev.hxx at first; and then set mnFlags according to mnTextLayoutMode; finally assign the nLevel with correct value according to mnFlags in vcl/source/gdi/sallayout.cxx::ImplLayoutArgs::ImplLayoutArgs(...). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I think that is the correct behavior. On windows, before reseting the visual order by bidi-algrithm, Unscribe divides a sequence of bidi chracters into runs each of which only contains characters in single language. However, on linux, icu bidi-algrithm reorders the sequence of characters as a whole without considering the GUI direction by the parameter UBIDI_DEFAULT_LTR. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
