The build Number is OOO300m9 (Build:9358) but i did try it with older versions
like RC2 also and had always the same problem! I even did update our company
samba file server but the problem stays the same.

This makes OOo3 unusable for us so any workaround would be very welcome because
we love OOo3 in all other aspects!

mav-gantscha: Sorry, I can not reproduce the behavior currently. Do you get any
dialog on document loading?

Could you please do the following tests:
1)
- please check whether there are hidden files named .~lock.* on the
problematic samba drive
2)
- please open an OOo file for editing somewhere locally on the machine and
leave it open, a hidden lock file with the name .~lock.document file name#
should be created by office
- please try to copy the lock file to the problematic mounted samba drive

I am really really sorry to waste your time with my configuration failures! I
had veto files = /.*/ in my smb.conf so no lock file could be created...

My apologizes!

mav-ansorg: The problem here is indeed that the OOo3.0 can not create the lock
file. The '#' symbol at the end of the lock file is a problem, although it is a
quite legal name on all the supported OS. The creation of the lock file seems to
work well with our local server, so I assume that the problem is result of
webdav server settings that do not allow to create a file with such a file name.

mav-gantscha: Sounds similar to a problem that was fixed some times ago. Which
exactly build version of OOo3.0 are you using? You can see it using Help/About
OpenOffice menu entry ( there should be something like OOO300m7 or DEV300m29 and
build number ).

Anyway, it should be probably possible to edit documents even if a lock file can
not be created. There will be no locking in this case of course. The user should
be notified with a dialog in this case that the file stays unlocked and another
user could edit the document.

I do have the same problem under Windows Vista 64 with a samba share mounted as
a local drive!

If i open something from the samba share it open in read only mode. If i try to
save to this share it refuses with the known not enough rights message. All
other programs can save and read fine from this mounted samba share.

I tried to use the OOo dialog and use \\123.123.123.1\Project\filename.odt as
the path when saving but this does not work either.

mav-ansorg: Thanks a lot for providing the access. The investigation will need
some time, for now please use the following workaround:
- go to Tools/Options/OpenOffice/General and activate Use OpenOffice dialogs.
- type the URL to the webdav folder in file open dialog and enter the login
information
- select the file for editing
The mentioned steps should allow to edit and save the documents for now. Please
let me know whether the workaround helps.

Yes, I can.
I used Notepad to save a new file to L:\Documents\.dotfile.txt and also tried
SciTe and was able to save a file as L:\Documents\.dotfile

L:\ is the WebDav Folder mapped as a drive in Windows

If it helps I could create another webdav share and give somebody from the
developers access to play around

I just run into this issue running OOO300m8 (rc3).

I tried both ways, opening the webdav location via the url in explorer (open as
webdav) and also mapping the webdav location to a drive letter. OOO-3.0rc3
thinks that documents in this location are read-only.

Other apps (including OOO-2.2) are able to save files to this location.

Do you use GMX web folders? There is a known problem with GMX. It's a GMX
problem and we ran into it because we changed our file locking implementation in
OOo3.0 because the old locking of OOo2.x doesn't work properly in heterogeneous
networks.

Can you do me a favor and try if you can create a file on your webdav folder
with a name that starts with a dot (like hidden files on Unix file systems)?

This is a limitation of the Windows file dialog. It does not give applications
direct access to the webdav resource. There is nothing we can do here. Please
switch to the OOo file dialog (Tools-Options-General).

Thanks mba - I appreciate your response. Does the webdav server have to be
mounted as a drive letter? I'm not able to get that setup on my workstation for
some reason.

Without using the drive letter, the shared folder is visible via the OO.o
dialog, but none of the previously-created files in the folder are visible. And
when I do save a new file to that webdav folder (via calc), it doesn't appear in
the folder when viewed from Windows.

I think this problem also is caused by Windows' attitude to wrap Webdav access.
If you want to have access from both Windows and OOo you must install the
resource as a web folder on Windows and perhaps apply some updating at times.

Using Writer or Calc I can open files on a webdav folder but can not save them -
i.e. they are opened as read-only. I haven't tried this with the other OO.o
apps.

The webdav folder uses http, not https.

After I open on file, if I go to the File - Open dialog again it takes me
directly to the Local Settings - Temporary Internet Files - Content.IE5 -
ZEOT34S6 folder. In that folder I also find the read-only file I just opened.
