Details about this notification you can read within the corresponding specification document at: Currently the ODF notification dialog offers two buttons, Update Now... and Later. When the user of an OOo 2.4 release selects Later, the document will be simply opened and displayed with the given restrictions. If the user selects Update Now..., in OOo 2.4 the Online-Update notification mechanism is triggered. As a result the Online-Update notification says There is no new version, your Office is up to date. This is due to the fact that there is currently no update for 2.4 available, but only a Beta version of OOo 3.0 which we don't want to notify to all 2.4 stable users. To resolve this we need to disconnect the ODF notification from the Online-Update. The idea is to use a web site instead, where we can display informations according to the current situations. For example while there is no stable release out there which supports ODF 1.2 format, the web site can inform users in detail that the document has been created with a newer Office version which is currently in Beta phase. If the user likes to participate in the Beta Test, he can follow corresponding links from there. As soon as OOo 3.0 becomes a final stable release, we can change the content of that site to display informations accordingly.
