Reason: We use the identifier org.openoffice.sk.dictionary for updates of dictionary packages since September 2008. This identifier was created following dictionary packages of other languages. Since 2008-Sep-05, the Slovak dictionary package extension dict-sk.oxt on http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-sk uses the identifier value org.openoffice.sk.dictionary. This identifier is wide used. All updates of this dictionary package used this identifier value and many users use it for checking the updates. We have access to this dictionary package and we update it quite often. All Slovak versions of OpenOffice.org 3.x.x installation packages contain the slovak dictionary package dict-sk.oxt. This package uses the identifier value org.openoffice.hunspell.dictionaries. We do not have appropriate rights to change/update this dictionary package and we don't know how to change it. This package cannot be updated using the update service because it does not include the update-website element and the correct identifier value. So, to solve this problem, we would like to update the Slovak dictionary package and also change the identifier. Otherwise it will be regarded as completely new one that has nothing to do with the old. I am sorry, but I don't know, what does it mean, if an extension will be regarded as completely new one that has nothing to do with the old. What are the consequences of that? And keep in mind that your extension in the repository must have the same name. I am sorry, but I don't know what do you mean by a repository. Basically it means that even if all other data and files are the same the extension will be treated as a different one if the identifier is different. This implies: a) You can't install the same extension twice. Thus if everything is the same aside from the identifier you will be able to install both. Which may leave you with two identical set of dictionaries, which you usually don't want. b) By introducing a new identifier you will start a new update line. That is if you have a data set A1 in an extension with identifier ID1 and you now make an update to that data set (lets name that data set A2) and put that in an extension with the new identifier ID2, then OOo installations that already have the extension with A1/ID1 installed will not find an update to that extension even if the new extension (A2/ID2) is already uploaded to the extension repository. This means in old office installations no one will get the new extension by just looking for extension updates. (You either need to install the new extension manually, and better remove the old one as well, or you need to install the whole new OOo 3.2.1) And especially if people are going to manually install the new extension (A2/ID2) without removing the old one (A1/ID1) then we will have two set of dictionaries. If the content is equal then it will just introduce some overhead, that will probably not be noted at all. But if for example the new extension was going to fix a misspelling in the list of words for the spell checker, then it may happen, that it will have no visible effect since the old one (with the misspelled word) is still around. That is because (if I recall correctly) the spell check implementation will look in all available dictionaries for a single language. And if the word is found in just one of them it is regarded as correct. This in turn is implemented to allow for the presence of e.g. a 'en-US basic dictionary' and a 'en-US medical' or 'en-US financial' dictionary and the like at the same time. If that were not possible then anyone who wants to use 'en-US basic dictionary' along with 'en-US medical' would be required to get an extension where the content of both is merged into a single dictionary file. And that would be very inconvenient. And keep in mind that your extension in the repository must have the same name. I am sorry, but I don't know what do you mean by a repository. Is that the slovak dictionary package on http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/dict-sk ? Yes. http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/ is the so called 'extension repository'.
