You didn't wait long for an answer

And the answer is: it still breaks even when using the patch attached to this
issue.

We seem to be clean now except that O3-build thing (which I cannot reproduce in
an o3-build here). Buildbots / tinderboxes 'Fedora x86_64', 'edgy-jdk',
'Solaris-Intel', 'Win-XP', and 'Ubuntu' look fine. Current breakage of
'etch-gij' unrelated to openssl.
I'd like to set this to 'verifed' and approve the CWS in order to get it
integrated into next milestone. Currently I am waiting for a response by cloph
(maintainer of 'O3-build' buildbot).

As discussed with ause I removed -j option on linux too. It causes link errors
if openssl is building with multiprocesses.

tkr: I found more when trying to do system-openssl. For system-openssl we *MUST*
link dynamically with libssl. ad most architectures (i386 is the *exception*
here do not allow to link non-PIC stuff into a shared lib - in this case
libucpdav1.so).

In this specific case:

Another reason to just use dynamic OpenSSL libs on Linux like anywhere else.
I'll for now conditionalize this for system-openssl...

tkr: looks like you do not understand the problem here witch ccache.

The status right now: ccache is not used at all and can't be used right now
because the configuration
process of openssl doesn't take current environment like CC and CXX into
account.

The goal: to be able to use ccache/whatever CC settings we have in this module.

As openssl is the most likely candidate to being patched, I do not want to see
it linked into some files ;-))
You're right. We're aware of this problem and hopefully will have a solution
until code freeze for 2.4.

I for now removed OPENSSL build type from neon/prj/build.lst and
ucb/prj/build.lst
That's just a workaround to get m237 running, real fix still needed (see IRC
discussion).
Reducing priority to P2, target=2.4.

pjanik: like kso mention before we want to use dynamic libs ASAP. To support
openssl on solaris we need the openssl0.9.8a lib, because thats the version of
the system lib. Thats why we have two openssl libs in download dir.

The problem with Solaris is: as soon as there is a system one (and Solaris 10
ships with 0.9.8a + patches),
this one gets loaded first (by libgnome-vfs IIRC), so a dynamic libssl shipped
with OOo a) doesn't get
loaded and b) needs to be binary compatible.

However, future Solaris versions might ship some newer libssl, so building and
shipping 0.9.8a can also
only be an interim solution.

pjanik: thats true, we don't use it at the moment. sb is investigating the
issues we had with dynamic libs on unix platforms. Thought, it would be okay to
left the lib in the cvs until we need it. But, until we have a solution I will
remove the *0.9.8a lib.

For the ccache stuff: Is it okay to use the CCACHE_DISABLE=TRUE switch?

Hi,

excuse me that this is all in one issue.

Please use CC to compile openssl. We can't use ccache right now in module
openssl.

Please use -j for make (get its args from environment) to get the parallel
build).

I somehow do not understand why there are two openssl libs in download dir (and
I have read
version.mk)... 3MB+ for nothing?

Please patch configure to add OPENSSL to BUILD_TYPE, because otherwise we do
not build it and then
we can't build ucb because libz is missing somehow.
