[Alsa-devel] alsa-lib: Error code 1 from snd_mixer_selem_set_capture_switch_all()

2003-11-12 Thread Christian Esken
Hello,

I have a problem with snd_mixer_selem_set_capture_switch_all() from alsa-lib.
The documentation states:

/**
 * \brief Set value of capture switch control for all channels of a mixer
simple element
 * \param elem Mixer simple element handle
 * \param value control value
 * \return 0 on success otherwise a negative error code
 */
int snd_mixer_selem_set_capture_switch_all(snd_mixer_elem_t *elem, int value)

So I should receive either 0 or a negative value. But I receive a return value
of 1. Does anybody know what this means?!? Any help is appreciated greatly.

Greetings,
   Chris

[Alsa-devel] EZ-Bus supported?

2003-11-12 Thread Martin Wolters
Hi,

I can't find the EZ-Bus Mixer/USB interface
(http://www.event1.com/Products/Digital/EZbus.html) on the soundcard matrix
or on the Wiki page. But it was mentioned on the linux-audio mailing list,
that the EZ-Bus is supported. Can someone confirm that?

Are there specific functionalities of the EZ-Bus which are not supported? All
digital I/O and MIDI work simultaneously (record + playback)? No specific
firmware download (like for the TASCAM 428) is required?

Thanks in advance

-M

PS.: If someone recommends either the Tascam 428, the EZ-Bus or another
Mixer/USB-Interface for a small MIDI- and recording application with a couple
external MIDI devices, you are welcome to send your comments in general as
well. I am back into that homerecording business after a break for several
years. So I am not up-to-speed yet - and of course I never used Linux for
homerecording before either.

[Alsa-devel] problems with 0.9.8 drivers and rme9652

2003-11-12 Thread Martin Dausel
Hi,
it seems to me that with alsa 0.9.8 drivers it's not possible to load
snd-rme9652. With 0.9.7c there is no problem. The snd-hdsp driver works
in both versions (i tried both cards with both alsa versions).
error message:
modprobe snd-rme9652
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-rme9652.o: init_module:
No such device
modprobe: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.22/kernel/sound/pci/rme9652/snd-rme9652.o failed
modprobe: insmod snd-rme9652 failed
Has anybody similar problems?

Martin Dausel

what type of RME hardware do you have? send us the output of lspci -v

Sorry for the poor information, here comes the rest:

* the problematic card is the RME Digi9652 (Hammerfall) (rev03)
* the working card is the RME Hammerfall DSP (rev 68)
I tested them seperately.

1) just a quick note to point out that whether you know it or not, the
email program you are using is sending out copies of your mail in both
plain text and HTML formats. increasingly on the net, there are
filters being put in place that silently dump HTML-formatted
email. some mailing lists will not ever accept such posts. as long as
you do this, you are (1) wasting network bandwidth by sending messages
that are typically more than twice as long as they could be (2) making
it harder for people using traditional email readers to read them (3)
risking the chance that people will never see your mail because its
filtered before reaching their email inbox.

2) as requested, please send the output of lspci -v

Re: [Alsa-devel] Creative Mp3+ USB and SPDIF passthrough

2003-11-12 Thread Lars Hagström
Hi,

You were right of course. It works beautifully. Thank you very much!
So, just for the record, so that anyone else out there trying to get
this device to work in the future will be able to find it:

The Creative Mp3+ USB device output works completely under Alsa (I've
not tried input).
To get ac3 passthrough you need to get an ac3 file and use
 ac3dec -Dhw:0,0 -C
You can play media with ac3 in mplayer with the oss compatibility layer
(mplayers alsa driver does not seem to be able to passthrough) using:
mplayer -ao oss:/dev/dsp -ac hwac3

Lars

You have wrong tests. Get alsa-tools, compile ac3dec and try this command:

ac3dec -Dhw:0,0 -C

The volumes (probably PCM and Master) should be set to 0dB (you need
probably trial and error path to determine the good values), otherwise
the stream will be modified and the receiver will not understand. Simply,
you need bit-to-bit copy without any modification of outgoing samples.
Anyway, it might be possible, that your receiver does rely on the
non-audio bit set in the s/pdif protocol. In this case, we cannot help you
until someone discover, how this settings can be applied to your hardware.

Yes, it's fixed. But I think this patch is better.
