Konstantinos Birkos kirjoitti No, let me repeat that there is only a single
audio source, no singers
 or players playing overlapped.
Suppose we start recording from a microphone via a single sound card.
Just a few seconds before the recording ends, we want to initiate
 another recording. An so on.
Well, I believe it has to do with sound cards since when I try to do it,
I receive a device or resource busy error because when the second
recording starts, the sound card is already occupied by the first
 recording.

What I would like to do is record from a single source and have as
outcome a series of audio tracks with some configurable overlapping
periods. In other words, the beginning of a track will be some seconds
earlier in time than the end of the previous track. If this is not
possible, I would at least like to achieve gapless recordings (with no
 missing samples between subsequent tracks).

Are the singers/players/ actually playing overlapped? Then a
 microphone
will pick that up and the sound card will not distrub that. If what
 you mean
is that you want to record those 5 tracks at different times/places,
 and you
would like the final format to be as below, then that has nothing to
 do with
sound cards. That is post processing, using your favourite sound
 editor (eg
audacity will do what you want). But alsa does not get involved. Alsa
 has to
do with getting the sound off the sound card into the computer as it
 occurs,
everything else is the duty of some other programs. So no, you sound
card cannot remember what that source played a while ago and
output that together with what is playing now. The computer can.

I hope the following figure helps.

 |-Recording
 period---|
 |-Track1-|
 |-Track2-|
 |-Track3-|

 |-Track4-|

 |-Track5---|

   ---| |---

 Overlapping period

(and track 1 and 4 overlap?)

I really have no idea what you are talking about. What kind of tracks?
Usually one records the tracks, which one uses the soundcard for, and
 then one
overlaps them in post production. (eg audacity). Or you can have the
 two
singers singing over each other during the recording. So perhaps you
 should be
a bit more detailed in what you want to do.

involved. Starting with 2.6.30-rc1 this no longer works and I have to use
something like arecord | aplay instead (this leads me to believe my
capture sources are set up correctly).

How can I restore the pass-through functionality on more recent kernels?
I am using an Intel ICH9-based board with HD audio and an ALC268 codec.

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.18a.
hda_codec: Unknown model for ALC268, trying auto-probe from BIOS...
 ALSA device list:

Please let me know what other information I should provide to help solve
this issue. It looks like some fix made in 2.6.30-rc1 broke the pass-through
 functionality.

It's not really an interrupt conflict, not least because the interrupt
 is being routed through ACPI.

You really, really do need the firmware though. You don't say what
distro you're using but that firmware file lives in an the
kernel-firmware rpm on Fedora 10. Even if you don't have Fedora, you
can extract the necessary file from the RPM and put it in
 /lib/firmware/yamaha.

(Incidentally, error -2 is No sich file or directory)

Re: [Alsa-user] How to order multiple usb devices

2009-01-13 Thread Ari Moisio
Hi

You need to use index option when loading the modules, with usb devices
you also have to specifythe id of the device. Here are examples from
my modules.conf file

# Usb-headset
options snd-usb-audio index=2 vid=0x046d,0x0a02
# M-audio fasttrack
options snd-usb-audio index=3 vid=0x0763,0x2012

You can get the vid values with lsusb command. For M-audio the values are
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0763:2012 Midiman

Note that in the modules.conf both hex values (0763 and 2012) are
prefixed with '0x'.
