I disabled the onboard sound through blacklist however can you explain
please why the volume is so quiet
It needs to be in the red to hear anything.

Hi, you haven't told us what the output of the command:

cat /proc/asound/modules

is on your computer. Can you run the above command and copy its output 
to a reply to this message?

Could you try again to download and run:

http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh

If you are using a web-browser like firefox, you can click on the link 
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh then after the page loads, 
select file, save-as and save the file as alsa-info.sh in your home 
directory, then at a terminal type:

sh alsa-info.sh

say yes to upload the file and post the URL it gives back in a reply to 
this message.

You could also help us by letting us know what Linux distribution you 
are running (Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, Mandriva...) and whether you 
installed GNU/Linux yourself or someone else did it for you.
