The CD Playback Switch control is missing.

It just happened again. But this time it complained that control #58 is
missing and that is the Video Playback Switch:

 http://www.boerkel.de/asound.state.3

It happened again and this time, the PCM Playback Switch was missing
and not even a alsactl -F restore and amixer set PCM 28 unmute gave
me sound. I had to reboot.

Anyone knows how I can fix this?

Thanks!

The CD Playback Switch control is missing.

So, when alsa wants to restore the mixer settings during boot, it
fails and PCM control is muted.

The startup script of your distribution shouldn't fail in this case.
I'd guess it lacks the -F option when running alsactl restore.

Do you know, how that could happen? Is my alsa-lib too old for the
kernel perhaps? Because I could upgrade to 1.0.15 (it's in the repo, but
masked).

Yes, you're right. I'll file a bug at Gentoo about that. Thanks.

This is very strange, I think.

But I had added the -F in the meantime and the PCM is not muted this
time. :-)

[Alsa-user] Sound card recognized differently sometimes after reboot

2008-01-17 Thread Thomas Börkel
HI!

My Soundblaster 5.1 is sometimes recognized differently after boot.

Sometimes it has 223 controls, sometimes 224 controls. So, when alsa
wants to restore the mixer settings during boot, it fails and PCM
control is muted.

I'm using:
- Gentoo, kernel 2.6.23-r3
- alsa-lib 1.0.14a

lspci:
02:0e.0 Class : Creative Labs SB Live! EMU10k1 (rev 08)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 17
 I/O ports at b400 [size=32]
Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 1

I have saved the 2 different configurations that are being recognized
with alsactl:

http://www.boerkel.de/asound.state.1

http://www.boerkel.de/asound.state.2

This did not happen back when I was using FC5 with kernel 2.6.20.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thomas
