[Alsa-user] PinkFaun C-Media CMI8888 problems only on Intel i7-i5-i3
I have a PinkFaun I2S card. This one is using C-media CMI and the only output is I2S. What is strange is that this card is working fine only on AMD processors (or Intel Atom) but not , for example, on Intel i7-6700. In this last case there is a very high, noisy and distorted sound at 192kHz. At lower sampling rates, for example 44.1, the sound is better, but there are periodic noises. I have disabled embedded audio in BIOS, have checked with hda-analyzer, I have confronted the loaded modules with a working system (the modules are the same), I have increased the buffer, I have checked with standard, realtime and ck kernel, tried to disable c-media specific driver and a lot of other things, without results. My system is archlinux updated to the very last kernel and Alsa version. What is more strange is that, if I boot from wtfplay minimal distribution, the card is working! I hope some people can give me some suggestions, because I have tried everything! dmesg | grep hda [3.327130] snd_hda_intel :03:00.0: enabling device ( -> 0002) [3.327199] snd_hda_intel :03:00.0: Disabling MSI [3.327200] snd_hda_intel :03:00.0: Force to non-snoop mode [3.367831] snd_hda_codec_cmedia hdaudioC1D1: autoconfig for CMI: line_outs=4 (0x6/0x7/0x9/0x8/0x0) type:line [3.367833] snd_hda_codec_cmedia hdaudioC1D1:speaker_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) [3.367834] snd_hda_codec_cmedia hdaudioC1D1:hp_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) [3.367834] snd_hda_codec_cmedia hdaudioC1D1:mono: mono_out=0x0 [3.367835] snd_hda_codec_cmedia hdaudioC1D1:inputs: -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot ___ Alsa-user mailing list Alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user

I would try another set of headphones or a different connecting cable. I would try the same headphones into the speaker output of the desktop and see what the behaviour is. I would try the speakers into the headphone output. And finally I would try a live USB stick or CD with a different distro / different kernel. -- Chris Hermansen · clhermansen "at" gmail "dot" com C'est ma façon de parler. -- Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot___ Alsa-user mailing list Alsa-user@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-user

Many do these days, as they are designed for mobile phones. You may need a converter from TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve) to TRS (tip-ring-sleeve). Some manufacturers are not forthcoming with information about the wiring of their plugs, but it's usually reasonably easy to discover by measurement. There are, of course, several "standards". A search on the CTIA vs OMTP standards may prove informative. Worth checking before software. If the software differences are absolutely repeatable, then I defer to your results. [Alsa-user] Problem with front headphone connector
Dear ALSA users, Linux 4.9.30 is used. Using a Fujitsu Desktop ESPRIMO P756 E85 with a Realtek ALC671, depending on the file with stereo sound, I need to pull the headphone jack a little out to hear both channels. But for others, I need to push it back in. ``` [2.227043] ALSA device list: [2.227205] No soundcards found. Re: [Alsa-user] PinkFaun C-Media CMI8888 problems only on Intel i7-i5-i3
Yes, most probably. I have contacted the developer and he reported that "...I went quickly through my emails and discovered, that one user was asking me about CM based device. His problem was that he was getting a noise when he was using 'aplay' utility. With 'wtfplay' he was able to play audio correctly..." However the tests with AMD v/s Intel have been made with the same linux arch image on a number of computers, nothing different. I am finding it difficult to find a reason!
