FAILED [spawn /bin/gzip: dup2 out: Bad file descriptor] on 2.6.1p2

2010-04-12 Thread Volker Pallas
 Hi,

I'm having a bit of a problem on *some* servers concerning failed
backups with the error message:
lev # FAILED [spawn /bin/gzip: dup2 out: Bad file descriptor]

usually these failed backups are successfully retried, but sometimes I
get the same error twice and the backup for the day fails completely.

This only happens on servers backing up windows clients via
smb-share/smbclient which are running amanda version 2.6.1p2. Servers
with Linux clients are not affected and other versions of amanda backing
up windows clients are also not affected. Additionally, as I said, this
does not happen all the time and not always with the same clients.

I verified amanda-user-access to /dev/null and I would rule out that the
file systems are suddenly corrupt on all these different servers.

I would like to know what this error message means and how to fix it or
maybe you can point me in the right direction.

If you need any more information, please tell me.
Thank you in advance,
Volker

Re: LTO4 library recomendations

2010-04-12 Thread Brian Cuttler

Luc,

The only LTO4 drives we have are imbedded in the Sun SL24 jukebox.

I can report that I've been happy with it so far, our oldest is in
use perhaps 6 months, 2 more are now coming online for us.

If the SL24 is similar to the Stortek 500 you meantioned I'd give
it a thumbs up.

This is not a recommendation against any of the others.

I can't speak to the specific hardware, but if it works with mtx, it
 works with Amanda.

Want to work on Amanda?

2010-04-12 Thread Dustin J. Mitchell
As we move back into feature work on 3.2, Zmanda's looking to widen
the Amanda hacker pool a little bit. We're offering to pay for
flexible work on Amanda. Part-time or full-time, on your own schedule.
Your choice of projects. Support and gratitude from the other hackers.
And the option to become a full Zmanda employee if that's your bent.

Whether you want to be rewarded for spending a little bit of your free
time on Amanda or become a full-time member of the core team, now's
your chance!

We're very flexible, so get in touch if you're interested!

Dustin

P.S. It would be great to see some of the older hackers revisit the
project, too.
