One should always RTFM before posting!!

If bumppercent is set to a non-zero value then
it controls the bumping and bumpsize is ignored.

bumpsize vs bumppercent

2017-12-30 Thread Jon LaBadie
Several "bump" parameters affect how aggressively
amanda bumps the backup level 0->1, 1->2, etc.

"bumpsize" and "bumppercent", defaulting to 20MB
and 20% respectively, seem to have the same purpose,
provide a threshold of savings before a level bump
can occur. But if both are defined they could
conflict.

For example, assume estimated dump sizes of 120MB
for level 1 and 22MB for level 2. That meets the
bumpsize threshold, but not the bumppercent. Or
estimates of 50 and 15 would meet the percent
threshold but not the size.

Does anyone know how the bump- size and percent
parameters interact? Must both threholds be met
or it exceeding one threshold sufficient to
trigger a level bump (assuming other things are
met as well, eg. bumpdays)?
