If you have postfix, you can use smtp-source:

SMTP-SOURCE(1)

NAME
   smtp-source - multi-threaded SMTP/LMTP test generator

SYNOPSIS
   smtp-source [options] [inet:]host[:port]

   smtp-source [options] unix:pathname

DESCRIPTION
smtp-source connects to the named host and TCP port (default:
port 25) and sends one or more messages to it, either sequentially or in
parallel. The
program speaks either SMTP (default) or LMTP. Connections can be
made to UNIX-domain and IPV4 servers. IPV4 is the default.

This is a good suggestion for supplemental load if needed.

It's been a while since I used it, but as I recall smtp-source (also
Russell Coker's postal) generates its own messages with general text
content, which means it's good for testing overall MTA performance but
the messages are not typical of spam content. The result is that you
won't get realistic performance numbers for the SpamAssassin analysis
phase, which dominates the overall throughput. That is why I advocate
using reasonably current folders of genuine spam or valid mail, at
least as part of your testing - they'll take a realistic amount of CPU
per message.

If you have trouble getting up to adequate load numbers that way,
then you can supplement it with smtp-source, but in my experience a
machine with comparable specs to the mailserver can pretty easily
generate more load than the mailserver can handle.

It's not too hard. You can pretty easily cook something up with
formail (part of the procmail tool suite), a folderful of spam, and
some sort of simple SMTP client.
