[amsat-bb] Neil Armstrong

2012-08-25 Thread Jeffrey Koehler
From CBS News' Bill Harwood

03:20 PM EDT, 08/25/12 ADVISORY: Neil Armstrong, first man on moon, dies at 82

By WILLIAM HARWOOD
CBS News

Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon and an enduring icon of the
space age and America's greatest technological triumph, died Saturday, multiple
sources said. He was 82.

We are heartbroken to share the news that Neil Armstrong has passed away
following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures, he family
said in a statement (http://www.neilarmstronginfo.com).

Neil was our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Neil Armstrong was also a reluctant American hero who always believed he was
just doing his job. He served his Nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot, test
pilot, and astronaut. He also found success back home in his native Ohio in
business and academia, and became a community leader in Cincinnati.

He remained an advocate of aviation and exploration throughout his life and
never lost his boyhood wonder of these pursuits.

As much as Neil cherished his privacy, he always appreciated the expressions
of good will from people around the world and from all walks of life.

While we mourn the loss of a very good man, we also celebrate his remarkable
life and hope that it serves as an example to young people around the world to
work hard to make their dreams come true, to be willing to explore and push the
limits, and to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.

For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple
request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next
time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you,
think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.

What would be the legality (maritime and otherwise) of a floating solar powered

approach that would pose little danger to ships but could be big enough for
solar panels, APRS, GPS, weather station, camera and other experiments .
Something that could serve as a relay as well as a data collection experiment.
For comms, maybe APRS plus some high speed satellite data uplink, commercial or

I've actually done that. Of the valid email addresses on QRZ.com (some were

The kicker is that I heard someone that actually received an email from me a

The EME people do the same sort of Net every weekend (Sat + Sun) on 20 meters...
14.340 at 1600Z. Maybe you guys could fashion it after that format and see how
it goes. Take a listen today...N4PZ is net control but passes it around to
other guys with better coverage in different directions.

Well first attempt at a 40 meter gathering wasnt a complete failer. Talked to
WC7V in MT from Memphis  and K7TRK was weak but there. Im open for comments and
suggestions on starting an HF Amsat group. I think it would be good for all to
be able to discuss things of intrest. Would we need a net control , open of
round table and best utc times and frequency.Who knows we may be able to get FM
operators to be a little more polite.

I get a warning message from Norton as well, however, it does allow me to
access it.  Like the others said, I just usually wait till it comes around
the bb as I believe Alan posts it here before he posts it to camsat.

I have not operated HO-68 for several months.  Today I tried to navigate to
camsat.cn to get the latest schedule for the bird, but instead the site was
blocked by my Firefox browser with the message, Warning: Visiting this site
may harm your computer! The website at www.camsat.cn appears to host
malware.  Tried with Chrome browser, same result.

What's up?  If the CAMSAT site is indeed infected, is there another site to
get the HO-68 schedule?

2009-12-18 Thread Jeffrey Koehler
Orbit #51 over Syracuse, NY FN13---max elevation 8.9 degrees.

No FM downlink at all but I did hear the beacon up the band right where it was
supposed to be. 13B2, 70cm mast mount SSB pre, FT 726R.

Nice big footprint. My first time trying to find this bird. Congrats and good
luck to all involved.
