[amsat-bb] Re: Satellite Recordings 2 Year Anniversary

2012-03-18 Thread Jim Adams
Thank you so much for your recordings. I for one have benefited from them,
and have told many a new ham to go to your website and learn how to work an
fm sat and LISTEN to different passes to understand how they are worked.

I've played your recordings for other hams and at local club meetings and
have the usual response of I didn't know we could so that from hams.
Listening to the fm sat QSO's with my call sign in there and explaining to
them I use a ONE WATT ht always leaves their mouths open.

I've also used your recording when there was so much wind I couldn't hear
anything on my recording.

If AMSAT hasn't already given you an award, a plaque, an engraved gold tag
on the next spacecraft, they should.

Please keep up the good work.

[amsat-bb] Wow

2011-12-05 Thread Jim Adams
I've noticed lately this board is sounding more and more like the boards on
a certain ham radio forum. Filled with personal attacks. Would the things
you say on the internet be something you would say to a persons face? I
think not. I thought we were on this board for one purpose, amateur radio
satellite communications. FM, SSB, CW, packet, it doesn't matter. Making
contacts through a satellite zooming overhead is just a lot of fun. And
when you stop to think about it, pretty darn amazing. Let's get back to
helping one another and making contacts without all the grade school
nonsense.

Had 24 qso's from DM67 today, Ouray County Colorado about 12,000 feet. It
was sunny and a balmy 18 degrees. One of the AO-27 passes was so low I was
pointing the Arrow antenna straight down to the ground.

QSO's with: AC0RA; N8RO; CO6CBF; XE1AO; W5PFG; KF7MYK; AJ5C; K7TEJ; KG7EZ;
K4MOA; KB1RVT;
WA3SWJ; NS7Q; KA6SIP; W0DHB; W0PTI; KL7XK; AND AC2GK/VE5.

As always, if you need a QSL card for DM67, send me an email and I'll get
you one in the mail. SASE not necessary. LoTW logs uploaded showing the
correct grid.

I forget at times that DM58 is only a short distance from my QTH. Today I

W5PFG, AJ1O, NX9B, N8RO, KL4E, VE8EV, AC2GK/VE5, KL7XJ.

I think just about everyone has this grid, but if any of you need a QSL
card from DM58 let me know and I'll get one out to you. ALSO, if anyone
needs DM58, let me know and I can walk down there for you.
Where will I be tomorrow? Stay tuned.

[amsat-bb] K0BAM 2010 Sat Stats

2011-01-07 Thread Jim Adams
I saw in another thread a breakdown of satellite passes, and thought what a
cool idea. I didn't start working sats until January 2010, because I wasn't
licensed until December 2009. All of my sat work is standing outside, with
an ht and Arrow antenna. Due to my being surrounded by 13,000 ft mountain
ranges, all passes I work have to be 30 degree elevation or higher. I get to
work AO-27, AO-51 and SO-50 each once a day. I know I listened for a week
before I had the courage to transmit but what a thrill those first few
contacts were!

1st contact was 01/19/2010 with KI6IUJ
Last contact was 12/31/2010 with WD9EWK

AO-27 - 322
AO-51 - 208
SO-50 - 173
HO-68 - 25
SO-67 - 18

TOTAL - 746 contacts plus one with the ISS

I've qualified for VUCC, just waiting on the award to arrive.

Worked sats from DM68 (home grid) and portable from DM57, DM58 and DM67.
This summer I plan on making several trips to rare grids around me.

Working sats for me is a blast, frustrating at times but still lots of fun.
And thank goodness for digital tape recorders!
