[amsat-bb] Re: knowledge required

2011-10-23 Thread John Becker
All in the name of "political correctness" the FCC in all their
(lack) of wisdom did away with the requirement of the FCC
1st or 2nd class licence to work at a TV or AM FM radio station
and repair a 2 way radio. As well as dumb-ing down the ham service.
10-4 ?

The only thing it did for folks like myself with such was guarantee
a job for life. it was not until the FCC fines started coming in for
such silly things as signal off freq - too wide - audio to hi or low.
color burst hi, low, off freq.

Then many of the stations went back to requiring one to get a job
on their own.

At that point many required certification from the SBE (society of
broadcast engineers) who did require the license. That did 2 things
left the station off the hook and made sure they was getting someone
that knew their stuff. To counter what the station had done the FCC
then did away with the license once and for all . again in the name of
political correctness. That was about the time I up and quit. I was not
about to be a sitter and fixing other peoples SNAFU.

I still have mine and it's good for life.

There just is no replacement for knowledge.

John

2011-08-22 Thread John Becker
Actually -

those of us in the rural area get the Internet by one of 2 ways.

1. dial up, slow but just like sunset it finely get's here.

2. satellite. With a bandwidth limit - once limit is reached
speed slows down to that of dial up or one "must" pay
more for the service.

Having said that how about just using that "DELETE KEY"
before the post is sent. That way no one is bothered.

It's so easy that even Ray Charles could see this.

The person re posting is the one that needs to use and
learn where that DELETE is not the person reading.

There is no 2nd option for us.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

But is seems that this is "only" a problem on the FM birds.

Maybe it's past time to not build any more FM satellites
and only the likes of AO-40.

I have given up on the FM birds because it seems that
(using the words of the late W2OY) every kid lid and space
cadet it there. (remind anyone of the 27 meter band?)

REMEMBER that both ARRL as well as the AMSAT is a "forwarding"
service. many words the we use in our day to day operation are
in their "reject" list.

If you ever feel your not getting post you can always change back
to you ISP address for a fast and dirty test.

That is how I found out about the problem.

True.

I'm a very big on computer control.
It seems that once you find a "free" spot it's yours.
That is till someone chasing someone else crosses

I really fail to see how someone with a pair of H/T's

I'll stick with my FT847 and computer control.

It has been a number of years (8 or so) since I have done

try with a H/T. I always used my FT-847 with 10 watts

It seem with as many in the US trying the same thing at the

it can't be done, but how much time you willing to put into it?
