[amsat-bb] Re: A0 40 replacement
High complexity of a replacement for hypercomplex AO40 is not the answer. A much simpler satellite is IMHO the way to go. It will take less time to design , build and test It will be tipping the scale at less weight. It will receive a much faster approval by whoever is willing to provide the launch It will make possible to reach the in orbit condition in much less time than what it will take to achieve orbiting by a satellite as complex as the AO40. The appearing in the scene of launch vehicles of several previously not existing actors , may even provide the possibility of a free ride in a new launch vehicle demonstration test. As I see it following a succesfull pattern of transponders configuration as it was implemented by the AO10 and AO13 designers may be a way to make the dream of a new , highly reliable and long living High Earth Orbit satellite really possible. 73 and DX Arnie Coro CO2KK satellite operator with the simplest possible station configuration that enjoyed very much RS10 another well worth imitating ham radio satellite On 09/05/2013 04:55 AM, Nick Pugh K5QXJ wrote: If you vote for Bryan for the AMSAT board he is committed to a HEO nick -Original Message- From: amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org [mailto:amsat-bb-boun...@amsat.org] On Behalf Of Michael Sent: Wednesday, September 04, 2013 4:25 PM To: amsat-bb@amsat.org Subject: [amsat-bb] Re: A0 40 replacement I'm almost fifty one years old and I'm now convinced that we will not see another HEO in orbit in my lifetime...if ever. [amsat-bb] Re: AO40 replacement !!!
Just read a posting about a possible replacement for the ill fated super sophisticated over-engineered ultra complex AO40 satellite. My perception is that any attempt to create a New Generation Molnya Orbit Satellite must undergo a very serious and comprehensive engineering research , in order to keep it within an area of simplicity that will make possible a much higher degree of reliability. No, it is not a call for an ultra simple parrot satellite, or a medium level of sophistication... what I am proposing is to achieve a consensus on how to keep the new satellite within engineering performance parameters that will help to keep costs down, increase the MTBF ( Mean Time Between Failures ) of its equipment, and also to achieve a high degree of operational control so that it can be kept working for a long time. In the meantime, until an AO40 Molnya satellite may be designed and funds can be found to build it and then obtain a piggy back ride on a launch... it would be nice to try to assemble one or more satellites that could follow the very effective and practical designs of the RS10, RS12 and RS 15... If such satellites are built they will certainly be most welcome at a worldwide scale, especially now that heliophysicists ( i.e. solar scientists ) are almost sure that the present solar cycle and the one following are going to bring monthly sunspot averages not seen in more than a century !!! Maybe this posting could start a very productive thread on the AMSAT.BB amigos !!! It would be nice to hear opinions and points of view from all around the world on this topic 73 and DX Prof. Arnaldo Coro Antich ( AKA Arnie Coro ) Emergency Coordinator IARU Region II Area C Host of Dxers Unlimited radio hobby program Radio Havana Cuba ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] Re: Request for help with FT817, from Arnie Coro CO2KK and Hector Martinez CO6CBF
Good afternoon list readers ...from sunny Havana where we have just completed while ago several AO27 QSO's ,despite a very poor location, sorrounded by buildings... Anyway both CO6CBF /2 EL83tc and CO2KK El 83tc, from my Nuevo Vedado QTH, it was possible to work stations using the FT817 for receiving, with the help of a nice GasFet preamp that Hector uses regularly with his portable station. Now we want to try FO29, and need to know how to set up the FT817 so that when it transmits on the 2 meters band, it then will receive on the 70 centimeters downlink. I have never operated the FT817 on two bands that way but once heard that there was a way of making the rig do that . Please send mail to coro at enet dot cu,and add a copy to arnaldo dot coro at gmail dot com 73 and DX plus see you all soon via satellite... [amsat-bb] Re: Request for help with satellite capable old rig ECHO 70 by KLM
Dear amigos : I am new to this list. My very good friend CO6CBF Hector asked me to make a comeback into the ham satellites world. I found an ECHO 70 KLM transceiver that was in bad shape, but that could be repaired. Now it is receiving , but on transmit the power is only 1 Watt. The receive sensitivity is not great, but enough for Hector to make a two way contact with it... Hector has a very good 70 cms band antenna system that really helped. The 70 cms signal level at the input of the first of two output filters is 10 Watts, measured with professional test instruments, but after the filters there is only 1 Watt. I suggested to Hector that he blew hot air over the ceramic trimmers of the two filters in order to remove humidity ... It worked on one of the filters... now there is good power output on the 435 megaHertz segment , but 432 megaHertz is still at the low power output level. FYI, we are not authorized to operate on the 432 megaHertz segment used by the Oscar 7 AO7 ancient satellite... but do have permission to operate on the 435 megaHertz segment that other satellites use. Any information about the ECHO 70 KLM transceiver that can be found will be most useful, as once the rig is in good working conditions it will be used frequently from my EL83td grid square location in downtown Havana, and possibly by mini dx satellite expeditions to other nearby grid squares too. If the files that contain the information about the ECHO 70 KLM rig are large, please send them to: arnaldo.coro at gmail dot com Thanks in advance for your help and hope to make many new friends in my return to the amateur satellites world after many years of absence * I am from the days of Oscar 7, RS 10 and RS 12 and RS 15 * 73 and DX Arnie Coro CO2KK ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org.
