[amsat-bb] Re: Satpc32

2010-05-14 Thread Steve Bluemel
I have checked to observer 2. It is set same as 1. It's weird because
all are equally off in timing about 20 minutes early

I may change me local clock to see exactly how far off it is. Bit
still need it to work proper. Thanks for you asvise Larry

 Hello All,

Recently my Satpc32 software has been predicting the birds about 20

Has anyone experienced this before or have any ideas what may be
 wrong?

 Thank you,

Hello All,

Just a quick Question. Quadrifilar Helix or Eggbeater? All other options
considered, which would you chose?

Thanks!

Cheers to you David! You just talked me out of unsubscribing to this BB. I'm
licensed 2 years and still trying to figure out what the question is, let alone
the answer.

Whether or not a question is raised after someone has actually tried to work it
out for themselves or not is immaterial.

If this reflector, which lets face it is concerned with some fairly high level
stuff in comparison to normal ham radio operations), is going to go the way of
responding to a perfectly reasonable question with the reply of read the
**g manual, then newcomers and interested observers are going to beat a
hasty retreat thinking that AMSAT is elitist.

We must not be seen to be typical of the 'those that know' wanting to protect
their playground mentality.

I have asked some downright stupidly basic questions on here over the years and
have always been responded to with friendliness and professionalism even though
I have often had a mental picture of my helpers banging their heads against a
wall in frustration. But on the back of that I have been able to help with
other people's issues where the same question has arisen.

If questions offend then use a combination of filters and the delete key.

My 2 peso's worth.

I'm all for experimenting as well, but randomly plugging unknown devices
together is a good way to blow something up. What if the programming cable
is putting out +-12v (EIA RS-232) but the radio only wants to see +5
 (CMOS/TTL)?

[amsat-bb] Attack rotor.

2009-06-05 Thread Steve Bluemel
Hey everyone,

I have decided to take some great advice and mount my Elk on a rotor in the
attack. I have been told 30 degrees is good, but how do i orient it to be
the most reliable? When i work the Elk by hand, i keep turning it to keep a
good signal. I think you all know what im asking..

Any advise would be appreciated

[amsat-bb] Re: eggbeater rx performance

2009-05-29 Thread Steve Bluemel
Hey Eric,

I aggree with the comments on the hand held antenna. I use the Elk exclusively
at this point but would like to find a base antenna option. I cannot use beams
of rotored antennas as I just don't have the real estate.

I have met folks on this board who totaly believe in eggbeaters, but I cannot
afford to buy one only to learn that it didn't meet expectations. I have been
building some, but haven't quite worked it out yet.

I have built a turnstyle for 440 with an AAR preamp. It isn't great, but it
shows some promise.

I will follow this thread and hope we both find our solutions

Subject: [amsat-bb] eggbeater rx performance

I/m interested in the possibility of using oscars 27, 29, 50, 51, and 52
without using rotors or directional antennas and maybe while mobile. Uplink
seems not to be a problem as one can always QRO to a level where the
satellite sees an apropriate signal level that is enough but without robing
power from other transponder users. On recieve though you still gotta be
able to hear 'em to work 'em. Is an eggbeater and a preamp enough to hear
decently or is there another (better) way? Is working mobile and/or without
directional antennas even practical? what's the best way to do it?

Thanks,

Eric
