[amsat-bb] Re: Chibis-M?

2012-02-06 Thread Simon Pack

Hi,

I still receive Chibis-M (RS-39) on 435.315 in the late evenings. However,
it isn't downlinking in morse code anymore. It sounds like it is downlinking
data in a BPSK format, which I've not tried decoding.
Another point to note is that it doesn't start downlinking until a long time
into its pass. Presumably it is saving its battery power until its footprint
is over Russia. Downlinking is also not continuous.

One thing to be careful about is not to mistakenly receive Yubileiny (RS-30)
which is also using the same morse code telemetry format on 435.315, and can
sometimes be above the horizon at the same time as Chibis-M.

[amsat-bb] Re: CHIBIS-M satellite to launch to ISS

2012-01-09 Thread Andrew Glasbrenner

The payload is a scientific satellite to be deployed from the ISS/MKC to study
the magnetic field in the auroral zone.

Interesting:
This experiment provides a comprehensive study of physical processes in
atmospheric lightning discharges. Delivery of the microsatellite in its working
orbit at an altitude of 500 km will be done with a THC Progress M-13M after
the completion of the flight of the truck in the station. According to the
developers of the term of active existence of the spacecraft, Chibis-M will
be at least one year.

It looks like they plan on raising the Progress after undocking, then deploying
the satellite. This sounds like a new capability for Progress, and similar to
what I've seen discussed for Dragon by SPaceX.
