You should post screenshots. But from your description, initial guess would
be you're running in compatibility mode. What does your AndroidManifest.xml

Hi Android Community,

I want to change the background color of my overflow menu item when cliked,
but it doesn't work.
My xml style file is like this:

@color/colorPrimary
@color/colorPrimaryDark
@color/colorAccent
@color/cardViewColor
@style/overflowButtonStyle
@drawable/background_action_item_toolbar
@style/background_action_menu_overflow_textcolor

and my "background_action_menu_overflow_textcolor" is like this:

@drawable/background_action_menu_overflow_textcolor

Finally, my drawable "background_action_menu_overflow_textcolor" is like
this:

http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android;>

Thanks a lot for your help,

[android-developers] File deletion in SD card fails in Android 5.0 but File.canWrite() returns true

2016-05-14 Thread Bharath V B
I want to delete a file in SD card. But before deleting I want to check
whether the particular file has write permissions to allow file deletion.
(Because Android restricts write access to apps in SD card from Android
4.4+)

File filePath = new File(sdcardImagepath);
//Check file write permissions
if(filePath.canWrite()) { //canWrite always returns true for sd card
files in Android 5.0
// Delete file
if(!file.delete()) { //file.delete() is always false for sd card
files
//Show Deletion error
}
} else {
// Show ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE intent to get permission
}

In Java File.canWrite() returns false when there are no write permissions. But
in android specifically in Android 5.0(I faced problem in this) canWrite()
returns true even though there are no write permissions for sd card storage.

But this snippet works fine in Android 6.0. canWrite() returns false when there
is no write permission.

I have referred to the following link regarding this issue.

https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=66369

But I can neither understand the cause of the issue nor the solution.

Please suggest me the right way to test the write permissions of a particular
file or folder in SD card in Android 5.0? Or is there any workaround for this
issue other than creating a temporary file and deleting it?

[android-developers] Android Studio + Kotlin + databinding = unused methods?

2016-05-14 Thread Mike Hurley
Here are the versions I'm using:
Android Studio 2.1.1
Kotlin 1.0.2
Android databinding 1.1

I currently have an annoyance in Android Studio with Kotlin and
databinding. A method bound to a button's onClick event is showing up in
the gutter as a yellow warning saying the method isn't used. Is this a
general databinding problem for all languages or is this an issue with the
Kotlin plugin? Are there any JVM or Kotlin annotations I can use to mark
the method as "used"? Any other ideas?
