[android-developers] Google Android TV

2012-11-09 Thread Anirudh Loya
Hello Sir,

I am working on Google Android TV Application.

Presently the task of my application is to download images from the Social
Networking Website, which I have done it successfully. After downloading I
have to play them in the Screen Saver when ever the Google Android TV is
idle state and goes into Screen Saver mode.

I am unable to find any API's of Screen Saver or the Settings of Google
API. I am unable to understand how can I pull the downloaded images to play
it in screen saver.

Any help you be appreciated.

Awaiting your reply at the earliest.

 The current AdMob (6.0.1) still support running on android down to

 My apps are compiling using platform version 15 with uses-sdk
 android:minSdkVersion=4 android:targetSdkVersion=8/ in the manifest.

 In summary I:

- build with android-15
- run on all version down to android-4
- look and feel like an android-8 app on higher versions

 From the AdMob docs
 https://developers.google.com/mobile-ads-sdk/docs/android/fundamentals
 The Google AdMob Ads SDK for Android requires a run-time of Android *1.5* or
 later (set android:minSdkVersion to at least 3 in yourAndroidManifest.xml).
 This means you can develop with the latest version of the Android SDK and
 your app will still run on an earlier Android version (1.5 minimum).

Re: [android-developers] XML Parsing w/ DocumentBuilder

2012-03-30 Thread Anirudh Loya
Use XML with sitelist.. !! It will work fine.

No idea about document builder.

On Thu, Mar 29, 2012 at 10:34 PM, Bozzified bozi...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hello everyone.

 I am trying to get a hang of XML parsing and can't get this to show me the
 right elements as I'm fairly new to Android/Java dev. Would appreciate
 some guidance.

 I've build a class that gets the custom xml url and needs to parse it and
 fill ArrayList with values. After trying several versions I can't wrap my
 head around parsing nodes and extracting element values.

 This is what I have

   DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.*newInstance*();
 DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
 Document doc = builder.parse(feedURL);

// get xml document root element
 Element root = doc.getDocumentElement();

// get node list of all elements with tag name item
 NodeList items = root.getElementsByTagName(item);

  ArrayListString[] photoSet = *new* ArrayListString[]();

 *for* (*int* i = 0; i  items.getLength(); i++) {

 Node itemNode = items.item(i);

 NodeList itemChildNodes = itemNode.getChildNodes();

 Node itemChildNode = itemChildNodes.item(2);

 String value = itemChildNode.getNodeValue();

  Log.*d*(ITEM ELEMENT VALUE, Node value for item[+i+]
 - +value);

 }

 here's what the XML looks like:

 gallery
 item photoid509/photoid url
 http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/320622_10150298438271744_326149431743_8468654_1542995730_n.jpg

 dateupdated2Wed Jan 25 07:31:58 GMT-0800 2012/dateupdated2

 /item

 item photoid508/photoid url
 http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/308152_10150298438346744_326149431743_8468655_312468158_n.jpg

 dateupdated2Wed Jan 25 07:31:44 GMT-0800 2012/dateupdated2/item
 /gallery

 So now why I put itemChildNodes.item(2) is basically because I thought
 that would give me back 3rd subchild element of that node which is in this
 case title tag under item node

 Would someone be kind enough to educate me on why this is not working and
 what's the best way to do this. The reason I'm not using SAX is because
 these XML files will be fairly small so I went with DocumentBuilder and
 also I wanted to learn both ways.

 Many thanks good people.

 In general what I and the rest of the company I work for have found is
 that those write-once-run-anywhere platforms never give you a good
 solution, and in many cases end up adding more work than they save you.
  The main problem with them is that they are inherently limited to a
 lowest common denominator approach. They have to support only the things
 that can be supported on all of their platforms. Worse yet, they often
 fail horribly when it comes to scalability and things that are peculiar to
 a specific platform.

 Additionally, you will never fully get the feel of a truly native app.
  Keep in mind that the two platforms are very different even ignoring the
 different programming languages and APIs they use. Their whole design
 language is different. iOS tends to use tabular navigation heavily whereas
 Android uses more dashboards. iOS tabs are typically on the bottom,
 Android's are on the top. Horizontal swipe gestures are much more common
 on Android.

 There's a huge list of differences that transcend simply rewriting the
 code. If you're not willing to respect those differences, write a web-app
 optimized for mobile. It's definitely cheaper and you won't have to worry
 about conforming to any particular platform. If you'd rather invest the
 time seeking a native solution, then go fully native and design and write
 for each platform.

 don't currently own any Android devices at all. I'm willing to buy 2-3
 devices for testing purposes but I don't have the budget to buy more than
 this or to subscribe to one of the online testing services.

 So before I commit to this project, I'd like to ask people with more

 relatively simple app before release or would I need more to represent the
 large number of different devices out there?

 be medium density, drawable-mdpi.

 Android running on a notebook with a 1280 * 720 screen would probably be
