[android-developers] What is the difference between the garbage collector calls GC Explicit, GC For Malloc, and GC External Malloc?

2011-06-23 Thread Greg Siano
I want to know how many times my game is causing the garbage collector
to run but I don't know which calls I should be looking for, and maybe
some of them are not from my application and are unavoidable.

[android-developers] Why has my app disappeared from the market? Has this happened to anyone before?

2010-08-20 Thread Greg Siano
My app is a legitimate app, it isn't one of those sexy wallpaper, etc.

but the ad free one has disappeared. Any explanations? Thanks

[android-developers] How does AdMob calculate how much to pay developers per click? Is AdMob better than AdSense?

2010-08-14 Thread Greg Siano
I just integrated AdMob into my app. I noticed that in South Korea,
there were 24 clicks, but that I only got 7 cents off of those
clicks. In Malaysia, there was one click that generated 11 cents, and
in Japan there were 2 clicks that generated 0 cents. Does anyone know
how this works??

Also, does AdMob or Google AdSense generate more money?

[android-developers] Leaving an app by pressing 'Home' and going back to it but a new one is started

2010-08-13 Thread Greg Siano
I've recently been getting user complaints that when they leave my app
by pressing the 'Home' key, my app continues to play sounds like it is
supposed to, but when they go back to the app, a new one opens, but
the old one is still running in the background. I have noticed this
sometimes myself too, but only recently (my app has been on the market
for a while now). I've done some testing myself and noticed that when
a new instance of the app is opened after pressing 'Home' then
starting the app again, pressing the 'back' key will go back to the
original instance of the app that was opened. This means that the
original instance of the app was not killed, but a new one was just
opened over it. Has anyone else experience something like this? or
know what could be going on? Thanks

Its a sound playing in the background continuously.

What exactly are your running in the background? Is it something that run's
continuously or is it something that run ever X minutes? If its something
that runs every X minutes you could try using AlaramManager. I'm not sure
 if
this second way would work but on the onStop method you could restart the
background service. That way if it gets killed it restarts itself. Never
tried that way so im not sure if it would work or not.

Its not a force close, it just gets stopped by the system.

It is? News to me! :)

For the original poster -- if by force close you mean the app error
dialog, the #1 thing to do is look at the stack crawl in the log of the
error that caused the crash. (You will also see these in android feedback,
which should be available on all devices running 2.2.)

Without at least a stack crawl, nobody can help you. You have posted so
little information that you are just asking people to make wild guesses for
 you. Not productive for anyone.

[android-developers] DDMS Allocations tracker not picking up activity when using a real phone

I'm trying to use DDMS to track my allocations, but it only finds my

can't find it, even though it finds the phone. Is there anything
