[android-developers] setsockopt API always returns -1

2009-04-22 Thread Joe Petruchi
Hi

I have been trying to use setsockopt with option SO_BINDTODEVICE and option
value lo. The code is similar to this

printf("\nDevice name is %s\n",argv[3] );
retval=setsockopt(hSocket, SOL_SOCKET, SO_BINDTODEVICE, argv[3],
(strlen(argv[3])+1) );

if(retval<0)
{
 printf("\nSetting socket options failed %d\n", retval);
 return 0;
}

The setsockopt API is always returning -1. I am not able to understand the
problem. I tried running the same program on my ubuntu PC and it works fine
and the device is getting binded to the socket.

If anybody has faced the same problem please help

[android-developers] Ifconfig command in Adb shell

2009-03-07 Thread Joe Petruchi
Is the if config command working in Android emulator or target ?

When i type ifconfig inside the shell of the emulator using adb it doesnot
show any network Interface ?

My Android based phone also doesnot shows any output for ifconfig eventhough
it has a GPRS connection over which it sends and receives data for browser

Does anybody knows why the ifconfig command is not working or is there any
alternate method to know the network interfaces and their IP address ?

Telephony.Carriers.CONTENT_URI and make a list yourself as per my knowledge.

[android-developers] Re: Does emulator simulate GSM or 3G?

2009-02-27 Thread Joe Petruchi
As per the cupcake release it checks for the network if it is 3G or not
before allowing simultaneous CS and PS call.

I dont remember exactly from where it gets the network type though

You can better check in the cupcake release code. There is some API :)

Hope this helps

[android-developers] Re: Emualator fails at Boot up

2009-02-27 Thread Joe Petruchi
Hi David

i downloaded the kernel using this link.
 The latest 2.6.27 goldfish kernel is now available:
http://android.git.kernel.org/?p=kernel/common.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/...

this link i got from a mailing thread
http://groups.google.com/group/android-kernel/browse_thread/thread/984e90dac7ab658d

i configured the kernel using the goldfish config file

i did make with the goldfish config file to get the .config
and then i executed make; this generated the kernel image for me.

If you see something wrong with this
please let me know

Infact I searched in the net with the same error "init: Unable to open
persistent property directory /data/property errno: 2" and it seems many
people faced this problem but the solution was not revealed in any of the
mailing list.

Regards
Joe

Hi David

Thanks for your response

As you figured out

emulator -system ./a/b/ works but emulator -system ./a/b/ -kernel
x/y/z/kernelImage doesnot works.

My emulator doesnot works with the latest kernel. I have downloaded the
kernel code from the Android site only. This kernel is already working for
some people. I wonder why it doesnot work for me

Hope i will get the fix soon

Joe

The Emulators kernel is booting up however it stops in the intial Andriod

emulator -kernel ./x/y/zImage -system ./a/b/ -show-kernel

I saw the kernel messages.. Everything works fine; the init finally fails
telling this

init: cannot find '/system/bin/servicemanager', disabling 'servicemanager'
init: cannot find '/system/bin/mountd', disabling 'mountd'

I googled and found in the net that the Android SDK's kernel has to be

[android-developers] Re: Apntype - Question

2009-02-25 Thread Joe Petruchi
Hi

Different APN can be used by different applications such as browser or mms.
APN Type tells the association of the applications with the APN. Currently
as per the cupcake release
you can have the APN Type as default or mms. If the APN Type is blank then
the APN is supposed to be supporting all the PS based applications.

Regarding the Detach happening, whenever there is a change in APN database
the connection is cleaned up and new connection is established with the new
APN details. So every time a change is performed in the APN details a detach
will happen followed by attach.

Bye
Joe
