Main difference is in screen size. Tablet has a large screen size so,
modify your UI, in such a way that , to fully utilize the existing
screen size (600*1024 for Samsung).

Then camera, gps etc are not there in tablet...

[android-developers] Re: ListView scrolling past top and bottom

2010-08-12 Thread Nithin
We have a ListView in the middle of a screen with the height set to
wrap-content. On all other devices, as long as there is room on the
screen, this control does not scroll--or if it does scroll, it only
scrolls to the limits of the entries in the list.

What is the screen resolution on your device. If its less than other
devices, then it will scroll

On this new device, there is definitely room for the list so it should
not be scrolling at all, but the ListView scrolls and seems to have
elastic whitespace

Elastic whitespace is because, you may be putting any background image
for the listView. Either you can fixed the height of the listView or
create a custom listView

 On this new device, there is definitely room for the list so it should

 elastic whitespace above and below (and separator lines above the top
 item and below the bottom item).

 Thus, when you drag down, the whole list scrolls down within the
 limits of the view's bounds (i.e. it clips there) and then when you
 release the drag, the list springs back up to its normal position.
 This latter behavior makes it seem like there is deliberate code that
 has been put in for this--but we certainly didn't do that.

 What could cause this? Is there a setting that has defaulted one way
 on this device that defaults opposite on other devices?

I think, we can't stop scrolling. ListView is doing scrolling for us
and we can't stop scrolling. I also tried getScrollY(), but its always
zero.

In my case, I have 3 buttons on top of the screen (like tabs) and
clicking on each button, its showing a list. Moreover, I am using same
adapter for all 3 lists.

I can't use tabs. I want with button itself.

 In any case you misunderstood: my application was NOT rejected at all.
 As I said, Sony Ericsson even used it for their own promotional video
 and I had several unofficial positive messages from people at
 SonyEricsson in Lund, happily using it around the time the YouTube video

 No doubt you are right that some early builds were broken, but I've
 heard of no official X10 releases having problems installing my application.

 Personally, I wouldn't worry about early non-released firmwares being
 incomplete - that's their purpose. Anyone STILL using them can hardly
 expect everything to work.

[android-developers] Re: Does all Android Devices support Map API

2010-08-06 Thread Nithin
Hi Pertersson,

Sony's first release (X3) have lot of bugs. If we check the
getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getWidth() we will get one
screen resolution (320*480) and in the specification they are telling
800 x 400 resolution. Like that if our application have google map
API, then when we try to install , it will show a pop-up telling,
Application can't be installed. Application will download but we
can't install.

So, X3 have lot of bugs and your application won't work properly in
X3. Maybe because of that your application is rejected. I am not sure
any other issue is there.

I also posted about this earlier. Later I came to know that X3 don't
have Google map API.

 As far as I know, yes, but this is not a guarantee.  This is not something

 You can also do this yourself on newer platforms by making the library

 No, sorry. All HOME key events are internal to the OS.

[android-developers] Re: How to Draw route on Google map? not to use DrawPath

2010-06-24 Thread Nithin
Hi,

You can also use this uri,

uri = Uri.parse(http://maps.google.com/maps?
saddr=13.042206,80.17000daddr=9.58,78.10);

specify the latitude and longitude of the two locations. Here I
specified the latitudes and longitudes for two cities in India.

Pass this Uri to an intent with action as VIEW. This will open google
map.

[android-developers] PopUpWindow not displaying when tapping on marker

2010-06-17 Thread Nithin
Hi,

I am displaying google map and on top of that some overlay
items(Markers) are there. When tapping on the markers, I need to
display PopUpWindow. The code is executing but popup is not
displaying.

popUp.showAtLocation(layout, Gravity.TOP, 0, 0);
popUp.setFocusable(true);
popUp.setTouchable(true);
popUp.setOutsideTouchable(false);
popUp.update(0,50, 320, 70);

Here layout is an object of LinearLayout.

I created another android application, in that, I put the above code
and its working perfectly. PopupWindow is displaying.

  On the second press of the button the second TextView in the first row

  Then I need to build up the findViewById(R.id.item + i);
  Obviously this is not possible but is there a way to do this?

from your code, just remove, android:required=true from uses-

For you, i created a simple program to display map as,

public class ShowMap extends MapActivity {

super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
MapView mapView = new MapView(this,

setContentView(mapView);
}

@Override
protected boolean isRouteDisplayed() {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return false;
}
}

and the manifest is,

?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8?
manifest xmlns:android=http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android;

[android-developers] Setting two setImeOptions() for a EditText

Hi,

I have a editText. In this, I want to set two ImeOptions as

textInput.setImeOptions(EditorInfo.IME_FLAG_NO_EXTRACT_UI);
textInput.setImeOptions(EditorInfo.IME_ACTION_DONE);

But I can't do this, as it will overwrite and only the last one will
take. How can I do these two actions.

Got it..

TabHost tabHost = new TabHost(SampleTab.this);
TabWidget tabW = new TabWidget(this);
FrameLayout frame = new FrameLayout(this);
frame.setId(android.R.id.tabcontent);
tabW.addView(frame);
tabW.setId(android.R.id.tabs);
tabHost.addView(tabW);
tabHost.setup();
tabHost.addTab(tabHost.newTabSpec(Tab1).setIndicator(Tab1)
.setContent(this));
tabHost.addTab(tabHost.newTabSpec(Tab2).setIndicator(Tab2)
.setContent(this));
setContentView(tabHost);

I need to add TabWidget to tabHost, also FrameLayout to tabWidget with

http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/3d510d76d38cde51/a8c686fd834a2196

From this link, I realized TabHost is assosiated with TabActivity, So
we can't create Tabs without tabActivity.

When executed I got this exception in Logcat..
Your TabHost must have a TabWidget whose id attribute is
'android.R.id.tabs'
and this is from setUp()...

So, just out of curiosity, I created a TabWidget and added the id as,
int id = android.R.id.tabs;
and set this id to my TabWidget. But I can't add this TabWidget to my
TabHost. Then again, I got stuck...

I dont want to create TabHost in XML, I am using only java code. Is it
because of that, I am getting the exception, Your TabHost must have a

[android-developers] Animation in List, When contents are more

Hi,

Like in list, if contents are more, it will display the contents by
animation, slowly will come and when the content is complete. It will
stop for a moment and start again. Can anybody tell how to implement
that.

I tried with translate animation. But I can't stop for the moment
after showing full text. Then I tried with translate animation , so
when text is moving, its jerking slowly, not as smooth as in the case
of list. I am using 1.6

Uri.parse(http://maps.google.com/maps?

Then I try with this, its working.. But the problem its just showing

I don't want to show the dialog activity. Any Idea...

and its working fine.

But I want to show direction between two latitudes and longitudes, for
that I tried using this uri,
Uri.parse(geo: + 13.042206 + , + 80.17000 + geo:
 + 9.58 + , + 78.10?z=10);

But I am getting a Toast telling Unable to load the url. Any Idea
why this occurs.

[android-developers] ZoomControl Buttons in GoogleMap

2010-05-03 Thread Nithin
Hi,

In google Map, when the zoom level is 21, The plus button is
disabled and in the same way., when the zoom level is 1, minus
button is disabled. Can we programmatically disable the ZoomControl
buttons. That is, when the zoom level is 15, I want to disable the
plus button. Map should not zoom out further. But minus button
should be enabled.

[android-developers] Event triggers when I click around marker

2010-04-26 Thread Nithin
Hi,

I displayed map and on top of map, I displayed a number of overlay
Items(Markers). Clicking on overlay Items or markers will do some
action. But the problem is when I click around the marker, means
outside the marker, at that time also, the event triggers. I want to
restrict that exactly when I am clicking on the marker, event has to
take place. I am doing the event in opTap() method.

How can I restrict the event triggering to exactly when I click on the
marker.

 If not, the calling thread must have a message-loop associated with it

 If it's not a looper-thread, you can't call 'new
 ViewFlipper(ctContext)' this way.

[android-developers] Re: How to solve the problem of launch the apps twice or more?

2010-04-20 Thread Nithin

I also face the same problem, what I did was in manifest, inside
activity, just included
android:launchMode=singleTop and its working fine.

What singleTop will do is,

The standard and singleTop modes differ from each other in just
one respect: Every time there's new intent for a standard activity,
a new instance of the class is created to respond to that intent. Each
instance handles a single intent. Similarly, a new instance of a
singleTop activity may also be created to handle a new intent.
However, if the target task already has an existing instance of the
activity at the top of its stack, that instance will receive the new
intent (in an onNewIntent() call); a new instance is not created.

 sorry, you cannot eat the cake and have the cake - you have one cpu

   First of all, if you delete all your contacts, google sync will

   the device, it's very slow (a few contacts per second). Even if I add
   almost empty contacts (with name only), it is a time-consuming
   process.
   If I turn google sync off, importing 5000 contacts can take 1-2 hours
   (on HTC Magic). When google sync is on it can take up to 24hours. And
   this happens despite the fact, that application for the whole time is
   in the foreground, device is connected to charger and screen is on. I
   checked the logcat to make sure my app is adding the contacts the
   whole time, and it is.
   I tried different methods and different devices. The results differ of
   course, yet manually adding contacts is always significantly slower
   that google sync. Is there any way that I can speed up the process? So
   that importing 5000 contacts will take less than an hour.

- create a textview or create your layout in xml and use

 I use something like the following function. It really depends what

 Anyway, you can change the arithmetic here to suit your needs. The
 important parts are that you copy the bitmap you wish to change so
 that you have a mutable/changeable bitmap, and that you call
 setPixel() to change the bitmap pixels to their new color.

 In this example, I'm looping over all the pixels and assuming both
 bitmaps are the same size.

 You can also do this with a canvas, but this approach is the most
 flexible. It is not terribly fast. I only use it at the startup of my
 program. But unless you are calling it repeatedly, it shouldn't slow
 you down too much.

                                 int maskPixel = maskBitmap.getPixel(x, y);
                                 int tilePixel = tileBitmap.getPixel(x, y);

  notice that Mode.DST_IN is important(Better to see it's api-doc.)
  Use this paint to draw a ALPHA_8 bitmap on your org bitmap ,then you can
  get a Bitmap which have special alpha.
  So you can get two special alpha bitmap ,then draw them with Mode.DST_IN.
  I think you will get you want.
  But there must be a nice way, to do a calculation on the alpha area of

  hope it can help you.

[android-developers] Loading Screen not showing, instead blank screen coming

2010-03-15 Thread Nithin
Hi,

In onCreate(), first I am drawing the loading screen, then calling a
handler, which will create the database and inserting contents. But
when executing, its not showing the loadingScreen. Its just showing
the blank screen for few seconds and drawing the page directly after
creating database.

The inference I got was, the onCreate loop is executing till end, so
there is no time to call the loading screen. Handler is creating a
seperate thread and we have UI thread, so in UI thread, I am drawing
the loadingScreen and in handler, creting the database and inserting
contents

How to solve this ? Any Idea please.

Nithin

Hi CMF,

check this..

 In your case you are extending view

 however if you use built in views or even your view which holds just the
 image.

 then u can setanimation and startanimation

    TranslateAnimation animation = new TranslateAnimation(

 Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f,
                             Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, -0.3f,
 Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, -0.15f

                     //i2.setAnimation(animation);
                     i2.startAnimation(animation);

 here i2 is an imageview

 Google it u will find lots of animation examples.

 Hope this helps
