You want to allow direct access to your mysql server? Troubles welcome.
Write REST / XML-RCP / SOAP webservice that interface your databnase and
make your app using this service.

Re: [android-developers] mySQL android php

2011-03-16 Thread Nicholas Johnson
I have several apps which talk to mysql databases that I have on my
websites. For me, I use a http post and json to talk between the two. For
example, say I want a user to be able to insert some arbitrary data into a
database (assuming he's already set up a username and password on my
website). Here's the logical steps I take:

(Android app): Collect data, get saved login information
(Android app): Post data to my server
(Webserver): Gather the data (in $_POST['username'], $_POST['password'],
and $_POST['data']) and insert it however you need to.
(Webserver): Return success or failure through a JSON object (e.g.
echo(json_encode(array('status'='ok', 'error_message' = ''
(Android app): Parse the JSON object, and look for either an ok status or
and error status.

Anyway, I've been successful using that method, and I have two apps which
currently use it.

[android-developers] mySQL android php

2011-03-15 Thread acr
Hi all,
I I'm trying to tackle a new area for me in the android dev which is
getting/posting data to a mySql database. I am good with php and MySql
just not sure how to tie in with android getting success/failure
results etc.

Basically what I am trying to accomplish is:
1: creating a new username and password for unregistered users(i
figure via php to mySql not sure how to do this from the android side)
2: if the username is taken, notify the user to enter a new name
3: once the user has an account ( username/pass stored in stored prefs
i would imagine) they can access certain info related to their
credentials in the mysql database and have its displayed in an
activity as a list and sorted.

what would be the best way to achieve this?

I have searched the topic, but can't seem to find a clear example.
please help, thanks

Re: [android-developers] MySQL Connectivity

2010-09-14 Thread Kostya Vasilyev
ADB and USB settings are accessible from standard Android UI. The former can
be read, but not changed by regular applications. The latter is often
device-specific.

This means the user can change it at any time. Relying on either setting for
anti-piracy or security is not going to work.

Custom firmware can differ.
