Actually, you can activate the device without a SIM card. I documented what I did, perhaps it will be of value to you: http://www.opgenorth.net/getting-starting-with-my-adp1.aspx. I don't personally use a phone that much and don't have any need for a cel phone. So now I have the device but can't use it without opening an account with T- Mobile. It seems that Google requires the G1 have a SIM installed to activate the device. I am really disappointed in the lack of honesty in this matter. The G1 device isn't really unlocked and how open is it if you have to have an account with a specific provider. -- http://www.opgenorth.net --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Developers group. Sorry, but no. ADP1 is not restricted to any provider. (And, if you look around, you'll find info on activating it with no sim at all.) But if you want to feel martyred instead of asking for help, I'll buy the thing off you for $100. :) On Sun, May 24, 2009 at 2:52 AM, Kent Loobey k...@uoregon.edu wrote: Because I wanted to develop an android application that ran on a G1 device I bought an Android Dev 1 Phone. Oops, you seem to use G1 and ADP1 interchangably. Different devices. One is unlocked, from google. One is locked, from tmobile. [android-developers] Re: A $400.00 learning experience...
Hi Kent The ADP comes with a Firmware 1.0 which requires SIM. The SIM need not be of T-Mobile. You can use any SIM. And you can easily find the APN settings for any mobile operator on the net. This is one solution. Another and my recommended solution, Just go to this link and get the latest Firmware 1.5 for the ADP. http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html Just follow the instruction to update the Firmware. Once you done with update, you will find a skip button that will skip the initial setup page. After that you can go to the settings and enable the WIFI and connect to WIFI (if you have any). Then you can configure your phone with your Gmail account. Hope this will resolve your issue. If by some reason you are unable to use the second solution just do the first solution and then do the second one.
