Argf. The bug still exists with charsets
being added when they "shouldn't" be. Should we force

there others? I need some guidance here :)

-* Cliff Woolley suggests the following patch to fix a problem
  - with using mod_status and mod_vhost_alias. At issue is the
  - fact that because mod_vhost_alias does not create actual
  - vhost structures, the server-name reported in mod_status
  - is incorrect. The patch reverts to the old behavior of
  - storing the server-name of the request as a string in
  - scoreboard.

   * long pathnames with many components and no AllowOverride None
Workaround is to define with AllowOverride None,
which is something all sites should do in any case.

2000-01-13 Thread jim
jim 00/01/13 04:47:46

  Modified:.STATUS
  Log:
More on the 1.3.10 release. Here are my thoughts:

1. About the HPUX shared build problems. It definately looks
like, although the fix in place doesn't not "fix" the
real problem, that it allows HPUX binary builds to work
without junking things up for everyone else, which all
other suggested patches have done. I say we ship with
   this less-than-ideal solution.

2. Unless there are any -1 votes, I say we commit Ryan's
   '-Ae' patch for HPUX.

3. I need some votes on Sascha'a AIX DSO patch.

4. We need some clarity on exactly which variables we need
to protect in Expat. So far, all we have is 'lookup'.
   Is that enough?

Ken: What's W95-specific about it?

Help:
+* There are several PRs reporting Apache looping and they each seem to
+ implicate CGI script processing. The first PR happened about the time
+ we migrated to using native Win32 function calls to create the child
+ process. I have tried to recreate the problem w/o success. It just now
+ occurs to me that there may be a race condition between when the new
+ process comes alive and the parent sending data to (or attempting to
+ read data from) the child process. CreateProcess() returns immediately,
+ before the new process is created. The parent may be attempting I/O
+ with the child before it's ready. TODO: investigate ways to cause the
+ parent to wait for the child process to become fully active before
+ proceeding with CGI I/O processing.

   * should trap ^C when running not-as-service and do proper shutdown

Note that I am introducing further confusion by replacing the entire
module callback API with hooks in MPM.

There are various reasons I haven't used either EAPI or KEAPI but here's
the highlights:

a) efficiency
b) 100% typesafeness
c) entanglement with SSL (in at least KEAPI's case)
d) somewhat different motivation: I want to replace the whole callback
API and allow protocol independence
e) I need a way to allow modules to specify ordering, which (AFAIK)
neither EAPI or KEAPI had
f) The first great virtue of a programmer, laziness: as has been
observed, writing the hooking stuff isn't that hard. It was easier for
me to start again than to figure out how to hack things to get where I
want to go.
g) I was kind of hoping that people might contribute if I do it a piece
at a time, thus getting something everyone is happy with.

It is my opinion that extending the API in 1.3.x is a pointless
distraction of effort.

I invite interested parties to look at what I'm doing in MPM before its
too late.

BTW, the implementation of these hooks currently uses the preprocessor,
which is rapidly getting ugly. I'm strongly considering writing a custom
hook compiler to keep things readable, so please don't criticise on the
grounds that you don't like the preprocesser messiness.

Cheers,

Ben.

Ops, yes, The shared memory pools are part of EAPI, too.

I'll post a final and complete EAPI patch the next days before anything is
comitted by me. Because we've still a few open issues: For instance whether
we should also include the MM libraries source in src/lib/mm/, whether we then
really need the ap_mm.[ch] wrapper, whether EAPI should be disabled or enabled
  per default, etc.
