[arch-general] Permissions Problem possibly

2020-07-06 Thread pete via arch-general
Afternoon all

Having a whole hoard of issues that seem like they MAY be permissions related .

Is there a hard and fast set of permission attributes that can be set as a
default for a user at them moment everything in my user is set name users
with the bulk of the permissions set -rw-r--r-- or drwxr-xr-x for a
directory i know a lot of you use the numeric system i am not sure of it

I get problems such as system settings do not sticklibreofice complains
about backup files some things work some play up or fail completely
Kaffeine for one just bombs out i believe this is a permissions thing but
cant find any usefull info as to exactly what should be what if you follow.

A litte assistance would be very useful as i do not fancy doing a reinstall i
have too much stuff to reinstall

Thanks

Pete

Good evening Ralf

right i am using

KDE Plasma 5.18.5
KDE Framworks 5.70.0
QT 5.14.2
Kernel 5.6.12-arch-1
64 bit

AMD 8 core FX-8370E cpu
16Gb Ram
VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Hawaii XT /
Grenada XT [Radeon R9 290X/390X]

i do not use sddm i boot to text console then startx ( i prefere it that way
 )
Ok on the mouse click settings yes i found those but it is set to single
click so i have set it to double click saved it all closed the system down
restarted it still double click as you would expect chang back to single click
save no change still double click sojust to make sure rebooted the machine
still double click most annoying

hopefully over the next few days my head will realign itself been a hard few
 weeks mentally and physically

Cheers Pete .

[arch-general] Not Enough Bandwidth

2018-11-08 Thread pete via arch-general
Hello folks .

one of my rare visits to the mailing list

I am having a small problem with my machine

I recently Purchased an USB3 PCEe card with 2 usb3 ports on it

03:00.0 USB controller: NEC Corporation uPD720200 USB 3.0 Host
Controller (rev 04)

when i first installed this card it worked just fine then 2 days ago
the Kernel was updated and i started getting

[ 85.536166] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for new device state.
[ 85.536177] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for altsetting 1
[ 85.536179] usb 8-2: 1:1: usb_set_interface failed (-28)
[ 85.536957] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for new device state.
[ 85.536972] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for altsetting 1
[ 85.536975] usb 8-2: 1:1: usb_set_interface failed (-28)
[ 85.537628] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for new device state.
[ 85.537640] usb 8-2: Not enough bandwidth for altsetting 1
[ 85.537643] usb 8-2: 1:1: usb_set_interface failed (-28)

i am using the new usb ports on 2 external usb sound cards

Bus 008 Device 003: ID 0d8c:0102 C-Media Electronics, Inc. CM106 Like
Sound Device
Bus 008 Device 002: ID 0d8c:0102 C-Media Electronics, Inc. CM106 Like
Sound Device
Bus 008 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

I have found that if i unplug the sound card plugged into
Bus 008 Device 002 prior to starting KDE/Plasma i do not get the error
if i switch the cards around it is still on the same port

the machine is up to date updated every evening with "pacman -Syu"

Linux ### 4.18.16-arch1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Oct 20 22:06:45 UTC
2018 x86_64 GNU/Linux

it does not seem to effect the machine performance but just the sheer
number of lines of it is alarming

Ideas help please .

Thanks Pete .
